An OT question: notification about thread posts?

I've posted something similar to this in a couple of my other favorite threads.

I'm up to my ears in that project I mentioned (it's over Sunday), so haven't even looked at THR today, and barely yesterday. (I'm jonsing big time.)

But I've noticed something strange: in the last two days, I haven't gotten any - not one - "this-thread -you-are-subscribed-to-has-a-new-post" email notification.

Usually I get at least a dozen a day, sometimes six dozen.

Anyone else having that problem, or is it just me?

I'll take this over to Technical Support, but thought I'd just do a poll on a couple of subscribed threads first to see if it's happening to others.

OK, back to work with me. I'll be back into the discussion by next week. I'll clearly have some catch up reading to do. Hope fiVe doesn't give a pop quiz while I'm gone ... :uhoh:

PS: I will get that ammo poll posted when I get back. If I forget, someone please remind me ...

Two week report on my LNIB 642-2. It has been dry and live fired a bit. Either I am becoming accustomed to it's trigger, or it is getting better. One way to instantly make it feel fantastic, of course, is to get out my 1895 Nagants, where a 20# trigger is considered a 'hair' trigger!

The little monster hits coincident POI/POA at 12-15yd, as nearly as I can tell, with the Rem +P 158gr LHPSWC's, which seem cheapest from 'Sportsman's Guide' at $23.77/box 'o fifty. I rate it's recoil with them as nastier than my 296's with 200gr GDHP Blazers. Of course, for me, it's that dimunitive grip... but it stays, as this is ONLY a pocket protector here, even if I have shot that 296 much more... I will only occasionally shoot the 642. The pocket holsters I got from the lead here work great... Robert Mika makes a fine product. I do need deeper pockets for my shorts... have to wait for 'Omar, The Tentmaker', or whoever makes the Goodyear blimp's gas bags for them, I suppose. Of course, with our current resurgence of winter (40's last two days - upper 80's last week!), I don't quite need those shorts anytime soon.

Oh yeah, I feel slighted... my 642 won't spark... unless you load live ammo - FLASH!

The return to winter blows! I was quite pleased with the no humidity 70s and 80s. I guess that's why it's called being "unseasonably warm." :scrutiny:

My j-frames all have seemed to improve their trigger pulls somewhere around the 200 round mark. I also notice that around that time I'm "getting used to them" and since then I've started feeling like standard pressure 38's are a little weak, and +P's "normal" and magnums "fun."

I'm starting to feel remotely proficient with the little revos, which is pleasing to me. I did some mozambiques on a human-sized silhouette at 7 yards yesterday, and I kept all the shots basically where I wanted 'em. The groups aren't as tight as with my SIGs or Hk, and I wouldn't characterize them as tight at all :) but I was actually surprised how good they were. Good enough for social work.

I still can't slow-fire as accurately as my autoloaders. If I try, at 25 feet I can make 5 shots all into one ragged hole with any of my autoloaders, but I can't do that yet with the snub unless we're talking 15 feet. I'm practicing, though.

I'm really enjoying the snub experience. I blew through 80 rounds yesterday, including about 15 magnum loads, and I enjoyed the whole experience. It's funny to me that I thought the 442/340 was "hot" with 38's at one point... Maybe my nerve endings are simply battered beyond belief? Naah, you just get used to it.

I put another 100 rounds through what is quickly becoming one of my favorite guns (it has some stiff competition). Everytime I take it to the range, I shoot it just as well or sometimes even better then some of my longer barreled guns. If anyone is thinking of putting a set of Crimson Trace grips on their X42, DO IT!!
IMHO, it just doesn't get any better than a 642 with CTs. :D

You ain't just whistlin Dixie there my friend. I love my 642 - more so every time I shoot it. I miss my CT's, (they're off at Smith and Wesson), but what a potent little package.

I guess you have never shot a good K frame. As much as I love my 642 for its lightness and the ability to do some fast reloads when I have the 940 cylinder installed, I can shoot faster and more accurately with my S&W 65.

I know it is sacrilege in a 642 thread to espouse a larger firearm, but my 65 is one of the best triggers I have and carrys real nice IWB.

I will often carry my 642 because it is just right for dropping in my pocket and will do what I need in a situation.

Damn, my new LG-105 CT grip delivered yesterday...I just ordered them three days ago. Wow...fast delivery! :D Grand kids in the house this Easter weekend, so, I doubt I will find the tme to replace grips right now. I'm awaiting some FP-10 coming in the mail anyhoo...which I intend to clean/lube up the action when I change the grips anyway. I promise to range test them within the week...w/pics of course. The grips, albeit poly, look pretty much like the stock hard rubber grips...a bit thinner so should be easier to slide into the ol' pocket. I am wondering if they will be less comfortable. I have some Uncle Mike's jell shooter gloves on order too...but will not use them so that I can give you my "real time" impression on how this LG handles.

Brian-
I have two excellent K frames, 64-2 1 7/8" and a 66-2 2.5". Both are awsome guns/shooters, but for daily carry in my pants pocket or jacket pocket, I'll take my 642 :D

As long as it has the "S&W" logo, it's not. :p

While the grandkids and wife are doing up Seattle, I managed to put on the LG-105 grip. Pretty cool, if I must say so myself...a quick snapshot attached. Grips feel good...and it only took me a turn or two to get the laser lined up with my point of aim...a clock across the living room. I'll take it to the range this week and make final adjustments at about 25 feet. The grip feels great in my hand...am playing with the laser while watching TV...dry firing...taunting the cat...hee, hee.;) You all have a great Easter.....!!!!

The end to another week at Club 642. No reports of any serious problems from any of our members. Life is good.

Keep your eyes open, your pocket full, and have a good holiday weekend.

DawgFvr, how does the grip material feel? What did you pay for them? They look nice.

I'm wondering how they'll feel in larger hands, as I love my stock 642CT's. If you can't tell, I'm already plotting my next compact revolver purchase and this may be a more economical way to go....

The other day when I bought an EG Makarov from fiVe(who started this thread), he gave me a "waiver" to join the 642 Club with my S&W 342Ti Airlite. The 342 is my primary carry with a DeSantis pocket holster. It's light and most well suited for the heat and humidity in my area.

Harry Paget Flashman - Welcome to club 642. All X42's can can find a home here. What ammo do you have in that little monster? How about a pic?

Nem

When you return here, I just want you to know that I went to the range yesterday with a seasoned shooter. I gave him my 642 loaded up with the FBI load (158 gr LSWCHP). These were Remington, not my handloads. He handed it back and said those things almost knocked the weapon out of his hand. So we're not the only ones who think the way we do. I'm still messing around with the Federal non +p 110gr JHP, and they are still what I have in my pocket right now. I'd like to see some ballistic gelatin tests on these. They sure are a lot easier to control.

He said this after shooting his Desert Eagle in .44mag, his Glock in .40, and both my GP100 in .357mag (I gave him hot handloads to shoot with this weapon) and Blackhawk in .44mag.

As new info is learned, I would like up-to-date reports from:

DawgFvr: on the LG-105 CT grips

Brassman: on the Federal 110 gr JHP ammo (is it +P or not?)

<rubs eyes from a short sleep, pokes head in briefly...>

I survived the event. 15 hours from start to finish. No breaks for three days.

Oh, man, why do I commit to such projects?

Very interesting, B'man.

You've got the stock grips on it, right? Two-fingered version?

I've got the full Hogue monogrips on mine, but even still, I'm not sure how I'd do with the 158's.

I'm going to try some though, and I'll let you know my perspective. Thanks for the heads up.

I'll confess, I'm still leaning to towards 110's or 135's.

Nem, Yes I have the stock grips. I have a pair of Hogue monogrips that I bought for my wife to use when she qualified for CCW, but I took them off since the original grips conceal better.

Five, the Federal 110gr hydra-shoks I've been trying out are non +P low recoil. The report is about as loud as Remington FBI loads, but the recoil is a lot less and there's almost no flash. Any repeat shot would be a lot easier to make with them.

A Little Of This A Little Of That...

It's been a blast, (pardon the pun), trying out different ammo and reading all of your reports on here. It's really helped me along in coming up with a defensive load to carry in my 642. In the past, I would just buy a lot of everything, take notes, shoot a lot, take some more notes, read a little, shoot some more and then settle on a round. It's how I came up with carrying my Golden Sabres in my Para.

I've taken a bit of a short cut this time, thanks in part to you experts on here and in part to being at the right place at the right time. I have 1,000 rounds of Speer +P 135 GDHP's inbound and it looks as if my sporadic ammo buying is over for the time being. It will be nice to be able to train with what I carry, as GDHP's are generally too expensive to do that.

Still, reading the data posted on here has been an eye-opener and I look forward to more. May just have to try some of those FBI loads just for kicks, (there I go with the pun again) and the 110 Speers sound interesting.

Funny, MassMark, I happen to have 2,000 rounds of GDHP incoming. ;)

Although only 1k is for the little S&W boomers :D

All - The more I research ammunition, lately it seems I always end up finding CorBon DPX being highly rated and recommended by those who should know and people who's advice has served me well in the past. I found these test results by John Farnam to be especially relevant to our search for a superior 642 round.
