Every year the dynamics change, state by state.Florida gets a bit better, Oregon plummets down the cliff.

Taking everything into account, what state do you feel is doing the best job on our 2A freedom? Maybe a state you may think about moving to in the future.

Stay tuned.

It's actually difficult to say now.

I remember what, 15 years ago, when Utah was the first ever state to get an "F" grade from the Brady foundation, and it made me feel warm and fuzzy inside. But so many states have gone Constitutional Carry now, I would have to start all over and pick apart individual states' laws to make that call. Probably 20 states now would make the Brady bunch collapse to the ground and rend their garments. I am headed to law school in ND, which looks pretty good up front, but then I find out, no campus carry. (Oh well.)

Theres a flaw in the premise in the poll.
It's not a crippling flaw, but one of perception.
It's easy to pose the question based on the single issue of 2A freedom. But States have more than one issue or value to them.

Functionally, there's likely not one, single, "best" 2A State. Many ar good, some close in on great, but even those have some fly in the ointment, if not actual flaws in practice.
I can easily see voting for several, even most of the listed States, but I could not pick out a single one as "best."

TN, OH, & PA, just to pick three off the cuff, all have admirable 2A laws. Similarly, AZ, MT, OK have good laws too.
I live in TX, so, I'm comfortable with TX law, but do not see it as ideal.

Exactly. And even regarding gun rights, which state is "best" depends on what your gun interests are.

For example, if you collect machine guns, you're not going to select a state that bans machine guns, no matter how permissive it is about concealed carrying.

I voted other because my state--Arkansas usually ranks 2nd to 4th for the laxest gun laws in the nation by either Giffords or Everytown.
That translates to 2nd to 4th best. How could you leave us off your list?

It's right behind our rating for the number of people married to their own cousins.:neener::evil:

Cheers

I can't think of anything I'd do to improve gun ownership here in GA that could done at the state level. I can't imagine any place better. There are a few Federal regulations I'd like to see go away. There are quite a few other states where I'd be happy too. Some may have some minor quirks, but I could get used to them.

There are several states where I'd not want to live.

Seems to be an inherent reverse bias working on the information at this early point in time. Least populous states have the lowest number of "Yes"es.

Best bet is to find a list of "worst" gun States by an anti-gun organization and reverse the order.

I think maybe you were really looking more for a discussion of the "whys' to make some sort of decision.

And watch the trends. I used to tout Commierado whoops! I mean Colorado as a very good State for gun rights. Now, not so much. It's turning into Califrado.

You have to look not only at the gun laws themselves, but also at people's attitudes about guns, within the state. I can think of situations where there are tough gun laws, on paper, but they aren't enforced, especially in rural areas of the state. This urban-rural split is important. Illinois, for example, would be gun friendly, were it not for Chicago. The same might even be said about New York and California.

The model of this can be found in southern and eastern Europe. Draconian gun laws, but in practice many of those countries are awash with guns. For various historical reasons, people have learned to ignore the laws that they don't like.

Wisconsin! The CCW is simple to obtain. Only $10 for a handgun background check. No waiting waiting period for gun purchases.

I know the question was about the best state for gun owners. Wisconsin’s laws don't hinder me from enjoying my rights.

As an Okie, I have to say our gun laws are some of the least restrictive in the country. Basically as long as you aren't a felon or it's an NFA item(unless you have the paperwork and stamp), you can own any gun or ammo.

I love how my little state here in the Northeast manages to fly completely under everybody's radar when it comes to discussing "freedom friendliness". Probably because our neighbors to the south are very NOT freedom friendly, at least looking at the laws on the surface. And somehow our neighbors to the west managed to instate a magazine capacity restriction as a response to "doing something!" in the last few years.

But I have to vote for NH. No background check fees, no purchase permits, Constitutional carry, simple carry permit process for those who need it, instant background checks, no AWB, no magazine restrictions, NFA items are OK with the proper ATF paperwork. In general, we have a lot of freedom here that would surprise folks from "free" states who think Massachusetts (Boston) and New York (City) define the Northeast.

I only have NY and Florida to compare as I have lived in both. Florida's laws were a breath of fresh air compared the Peoples Republik of New York. At least we were not held in contempt or had to write papers to the judge asking for permission to make use of a Constitutional right.

I voted for Wyoming in a squeaker over Idaho. Both have almost no negatives. But Idaho has Boise, which is on track to becoming another Boulder or Austin .

These college towns are becoming dens of Communist corruption. Wyoming, with wonderful weather, read difficult, is an unlikely magnet for zoned out zombies for the foreseeable future.

The only areas that IL would rank high in are taxes and government corruption. I can still hunt, target shoot, and carry and thank God I have my own land where I can shoot my dreaded 10-22 assault rifle.

Don't know how other states manage, but Kansas has made some steps forward in recent years, especially with CC license and open carry rules. They still have a ways to go, but I get to do most of what i want without interference. I live in the most idiotic liberal gun-hating community in Kansas, but I can mostly ignore them and live my life.

Note the darker the better from our perspective. That makes Arkansas, Wyoming, Idaho, Missouri, & Kansas the top five for liberal gun laws favoring the 2A.

Maybe a state you may think about moving to in the future.

Considering that people rarely leave jobs, homes, family behind for issues like the RKBA, you have to weigh what the top five above offer for people in the way of jobs and life.
