Ruger SP101 .357 new ($503.50 after taxes)
CTC Laser Grip ($180)
Galco IWB holster ($31.8)
Box of Hornady CD JHP's ($23.31)
Permit ($10)

No class

Total $748.61

Throw in hours lost being productive that I spent target shooting, polishing, and cleaning my Ruger, and the cost of all the target ammo I've bought....... I'd say my ccw has cost me upwards of $800,000,000 total......;)

$300 for my gun
$140 ish for my permit/fingerprints/parking
$0 for the class (paid for for my bday)
$100's on practice ammo/range time
~$100 on carry ammo to test reliability
$30 for Galco holster.
$30 for Fobus holster.
So $600 on just carry equipment, not including practice stuff

Gun: $1100
Holster: $100+
Classes: $1200+
Ammo for classes: $400-500
Permit: $45
Carry ammo: $35

So that's up around $3000 and didn't even count plane tickets, practice ammo and driving expenses. Didn't count the second gun or holsters either. Personally I don't see ANY reason to skimp on such a process. Cheap holsters, minimum requirement courses, cheap ammo, lack of practice (ammo costs) sure not too serious if you gotta take the low-ball, cheap way through it all. Not saying one needs to spend thousands on it but c'mon, if you're really serious enough, at least put your $, time and effort into what is supposed to be important. Also, if one needs to consider a $2 fee for parking, etc...well...:scrutiny::rolleyes::banghead:

I notice many respondents are answering with the total they've spent on guns altogether, instead of just what it cost (or would cost) to get a license (if one is needed) to carry the one gun they most-frequently do, including the cost of that one gun.

Carry piece: $2600
JS Holster Pocket Holster: $45
Course: $125
Ammo for course: $60
CPL fee: $105
Photographs: $7
Fingerprinting: $15
Spare mag: $35
Carry ammo: $13.50

Total: just over 3K

Sig 229 enhanced elite: $879
belt: $50
holster: $50 (cheap temporary one)
mag holder: $20
MN carry class: $150
MN carry permit: $100

The first time I did it, it went something like this:
Pistol: $435 (Glock 19 w/ Mil Disc 3 15rnd mags)
Class: $90 including Ammo
Holster: $71 (sideguard quick clip)
Finger Prints: $10
Background Check: $25(yep, even for AD mil with TS clearnence [STUPID])
Permit Fee: $55
SD Ammo: $270 (100rnds of Hornaday Critical Defense)
I won't include the extraneous costs of gas driving, parking, lunch when stuck at the Sheriffs office ALL DAMN DAY!

Total: $956
When true costs in including tax, gas etc.. around $1200. Good news is that I won't have to spend a good chunk of that next time when I renew. I have LOTS of ammo and have started reloading now, I don't need the class again, the renewal fee is cheaper (I think) and I have some really nice multipurpose holsters that will work for many different guns.

Zane, what are you carrying, if I may inquire, that runs you that kind of money and fits in a pocket holster???

I don't even want to think about it.

If I add up the cost of all my carry guns and all the money I have spent on holsters as well as all the money I have spent on practice ammo I am well into the $10,000.00 range. Of course, this is over the course of a few years.

Wilson Combat Compact CQB. It doesn't fit in all my pants, but many. It does fit in my cargo pants and most of the shorts/jeans I buy. When I don't carry that, I carry its big brother IWB.

Gun: $400
Holster: $35
Concealed carry class - $50
Oregon Concealed Handgun License: $65

$550

I don't count ammo as it's something I'd buy anyway.

I work as a LEO in NC. Every year I have to qualify with every HG I plan to carry off duty. So I have to by 1oo rounds (per gun) of what my dept considers "high quality" SD ammo. They don't allow you to qualify with FMJ or anything like that. It would actually be much cheaper just to get a CCW. Still reading what some of you guys posted, i can't complain.

At least you can get permits, without being Diane Fienstien.

Here, 150 bucks to apply, and no chance of getting one.

I do not get it why are folks paying so much for classes? I understand some places have a mandatory education class to get a permit. But come on some of these prices are over the top! The information is free as far as legalities it can be found all over the internet, so why pay more than 25-50 for a ccw class?

In CT a class is required. The nearest guy is $150. There is a somebody doing it for a little over $100, but the $150. guy has done a great marketing job and gets most of the business.

50 dollars every five yrs for renewal. Had a ccw since before most of ya'all were born. (1969) VA is shall issue state. now the course is 65 bucks, no charge for fingerprints in this area.

A weighty decision ...

What happens when you can't stuff that G26 or 1911 in an IWB holster because your gut is too big? I can tell you: You either buy bigger pants (or a bigger jacket for OWB holsters) or you lose weight.

Cost of Weight Watchers: $9.00/week
Health benefit: priceless!

And, yes, this is the voice of experience. :)

You answered your own question...mandatory.

for example in my state, you are required to take an 8 hour class with a range qualification. The instructor has to be certified and you need to hae his signature that you successfully completed his course. Most of those classes here in nc cost $85, some more. You simply don't have a choice unless you happen to know an instructor who will charge you less.

WV concealed carry fee, don't recall, NRA course required for said permit, don't recall, kahr pm9 $625+Wv sales tax ordered from LGS, comp-tac C-Tac $50 or so, belts keep shrinking so We won't go there, ammo is ammo got to have it anyway, mags $30 or so apiece ( kind of high cost Moon !! ), wolf springs don't recall. Overall I figure it is one of the few things in life I get My money's worth out of. Confidence is high that My CCW EDC set-up will get Me and Mine out of a situation outside the residence and inside it should get Me to bigger firepower ! Money well spent that You never hope to use....WVleo

Permit, $55.25 for 5 years, $32 to renew
Walther PPS .40, $600
Holster, $10
136 gr. Hydrashocks, about $30

Finally finding the perfect carry gun for me? Priceless.

I took an NRA class back in the 90s when I started carrying, it was about $35 if I remember correctly.
