Perhaps thats a small part of why americans have accrued so much debt, as the vast majority of it is in loans, morgages, and credit cards, all things paid for (or, as it is, not paid for) with non-physical means.
For some reason, I'm react the opposite way. I tend to spend more freely the money in my pocket, but I'm tighter with money in the bank, accessible at that moment by debit card.
