The JACK AR pistol build.

I have a good friend/coworker that asked me about building her an AR. She said that she wanted it to be cool and not just some run of the mill AR like her husband's.
So I had her come by and look at my ARs so that she could see what she liked and didn't like. After playing with 20 or so different ARs she took a liking to my AR pistol.


But she thought the lower on my JACK build was sweet.

She asked if I could build the pistol with a JACK lower. I told her that one of the local shops had one in stock and that we could start the build as soon as we picked out the rest of the parts.
She said that she would like the skull to be black but wanted to know if we could put red accents on the gun. I gave her a list of sites to check out and gave her the name of the parts to look for.
The next day she sent me this drawing.

We then meet up at the gun shop and she bought the JACK lower.
The next day she sent me another pic. And said this is what she wanted.


So I got busy looking for the parts to bring the drawing to life.

I sent her a link to Surplus Ammo’s smiling skull BCG and she loved it, so I ordered it for the build.

My friend was able to make it by tonight to help build her gun.
She was a little nervous but jumped right into it.
With every part we put on, she got more excited.


She said she never thought she would of had so much fun building a gun. We did have a problem with the mag catch. It was messed up. I had some Strike Industries enhanced mag catches, and put one on her gun.
She ordered the Double Tap dust cover for Tactical Gear Junky and said that it gave the gun a nice touch.

Purely subjective, but I like it! It has just enough red to stand out, but not enough to detract from the lower. Most importantly, she looks happy with it.

I do have a red GunTec gas block for it, but the screws were missing from the package. As soon as I get some more screws, I put it on the gun.
We were zone partners back in the day when we worked the streets. She works in Crime Scene now. I miss the days we spent chasing bad guys together. I had a great time building the gun with her.

... so... exactly the red bits I used in my black/red sleeper. I'm thinking about going tungsten cerakote on the receivers and handguard, and a few naughty bits. I did put in a red BCG, but I'm thinking about changing that over to a new one and having it cerakoted red instead of this one... I got a red Warne scope mount for it as well, but that thing stands out way too much. Thinking about going back black and coming up with something else red on the optic, maybe just the knobs, or maybe just having the nuts and bolts on the mount done red... tbd... been enjoying it too much to tear it apart again...

I was also right on the edge of doing a Jack for mine, kinda wish I had now, cuz it looks great. Mine's an SBR with a UBR2. Not necessarily meant as a PDW, built to be a suppressed hunting rifle.

Couldn’t find a red hand stop that she liked. She still wants some red rail covers, just haven’t been able to find some.
She liked the red magazine on my son’s red & black build and is going to order some.

Yes, I think the customizations (red accents, skull, etc) were tastefully done, and the smile at the end is a sure sign of success. Well done!

If you’d have described your sons red and black AR I’d have thought... blah, but looking at it I really like it. I’m wondering how blue would look too.

Been thinking of building a blue one, but still on the fence. If Magpul starts making furniture in the MCT color, I’ll be building another rifle the next day.

That Jack lower is slick. This is the second gun that I have used one to build. I have another Jack lower on my bench waiting on a suppressed upper to be finished. Well, that's the plans my friend has for it right now. May do the teeth in gold or sliver.
I have a Hellbreaker lower that is waiting on me. The plans for it is a P-40 Warhawk build.
