I was going to post a Poll of what fellow THR member though of as the most important thing to surviving a situation where lethal force may be required in the ST&T. Then I realized that as far as I can tell in ST&T, training really doesn't if it requires a person to be physically fit. Risk analysis is talked about but I know for a FACT that most THR members live in a delusional state that, everything is fine if they look like a blue whale, as long as they take a class from some top name instructor one a year. But the real fact is that 60 people drop dead from heart disease every year for every person that dies from a wound caused by somebody using a firearm.

In all honesty, how many members of this forum are overweight? And most likely no, you are not as muscular as you believe, if you are less than 6'0" and not fat you are in the top 0.1% of people in this world.

As a community have we lost track of the threats that really matter because one person believes is OK to use lethal force to "scare someone away" because one member is too FAT to conceal a compact 9mm/40 S&W.

I worry about this community because when it comes to the real issues of is a person is going to be able to do something or not, it come down to the gear or training we have paid for. BUT NOT THE REAL EFFORT THAT WE EXPEND TO MAKE OURSELVES THE GREATEST ADVERSARIES ON THE PLANET. Which goes far beyond a 65 yr old winning the IRONMAN WORLD Championship. But Said 65 yr old, doing everything he can to end hostilities before everything escalates to lethal force, and I am not against breaking a beer bottle or a bar stool over somebody's head before trying to get my gun.

At least in my town, most criminals are fairly young fellas that have been to the Lodge at least once. Can most of the guys even outrun a little girl?

Awareness, mindset, and willingness to act.

With every passing day, as physical skills decline, this is more and more important.

It always has been, and always will be, number one, even if your the meanest SOB in the valley.

Doesn't what?

Uh, what? :uhoh:

But the real fact is that 60 people drop dead from heart disease every year for every person that dies from a wound caused by somebody using a firearm.
Ok. That may be true, and it is probably many more than that. But we aren't a health and fitness forum. And, in fact, we aren't a safe driving forum. Or a jobsite safety forum. Or a stopping smoking forum. Nor are we devoted to any number of other issues that kill tens of thousands more Americans each year than gunshots.

The top 0.1% of people at what?

As a community have we lost track of the threats that really matter because one person believes is OK to use lethal force to "scare someone away" because one member is too FAT to conceal a compact 9mm/40 S&W.
Uh, again, WHAT? I think there's at least three different trains of thought colliding in that one sentence. Can you sort them out, 'cause really, that sentence is looking dangerously close to violating our unofficial prohibition on "posting while drunk." ;)

The greatest adversaries in the world? Who's that? Say again? You talking about those Navy Ranger Seals in Delta Force? They're awesome!

One of the reasons we advocate so strongly for universal right to carry arms is that we treasure the idea that the strong, the fit, the agile, and the young should not be allowed to dominate the weak, sick, aged, obese, or even the less accomplished fitness buffs around them. A sidearm helps equalize the disparity of force between folks.

The lodge? Huh?

I've been to the lodge. It was damp.

...

Look, is the whole point of this just to say, "try to stay in shape?" If so, ok cool.

That says it all.

Whatever else the OP was trying to say is of very little use.

It is a "fact' that THR members "live in a delusional state"? Come now.

Heart disease is a serious problem? Well known, and also quite outside the scope of the forum.

How fast can "most of the guys" run? Irrelevant, and again, when it comes down to how fast an individual can run, Walkalong has said it all.

Breaking a bar stool? What is that about?

This isn't going anywhere.
