The obsession

Say Dave,
That full stock one looks exactly like the one a neighbor loaned me for my first deer hunt a long time ago.
I'm guessing that's a Weaver 4 power scope with a post reticule on it..? o_O

Basic crosshair. I'll have to check -- it might be 2.5X.

One of my friends also has this rifle in the same 30-06 chambering, old BalVar scope and mount:

The one I was loaned had the post.
Your picture brought back a fond memory. Odd how you just don't see that version very often.
(And believe me for a long time there, pre-internet, I was looking...)

I would buy it. But i like mausers, well done sporters, and obscure calibers. Ive got one sporterized gew98 in 30-06 and a "collector grade" M48 from mitchells mausers in 8mm. Love the mauser action!

BTW for anyone looking for 7.65 ARG mauser cases, there are some in an R2BA auction on Proxibid... As well as some other obscure old timey calibers.

Ya, I divested myself of all my Mausers in (now) unobtainable chamberings. It kinda pained me, but paying $2 a round for 7.65 Arg. just isn't gunna happen.
I used to form the 7.65X53 cases from 06 brass. Anneal first, grease em' up good and run em' into a 7.65 sizing die with the de-capper removed. Leaves you with a long neck to trim but it works. Load with .311 bullets.

So, I accidentally went by this LGS again and happened to look at the rifle. It has some type of crest on the top of the receiver, some type of bird looking symbol. Vaguely similar to the Ruger logo. I’m not familiar with milsurps so it means nothing to me, and it’s 80% covered by the one piece scope base.

Appears to have been rebarreled.

Pretty much as I remembered, with one major exception that I overlooked. It’s a typical RH bolt, but the cheek piece is for a LH shooter. Bummer.
