Why I bought Mosins rather than other military surplus..make sense to you???

The ironic thing about that statement is that French rifles are much better made than the Russian stuff.
No doubt. I suppose it would be like comparing a Citroen to a Trabant... ;)

That and I was trying to illustrate the extent of my ignorance at that time...

Wasn't Nagant a Belgian?
Yes. They do speak French in Belgium (along with Dutch and German).

I would sure love to call my mosin accurate or reliable, and one is sort of accurate for a mosin; (2-3" at 100 yards) but they aren't. They are usually reliable, but I sometimes have problems with them. While pushing the bolt forward, the cartridge will sometimes get stuck. The bullet hits some metal where a ramp should guide it into the chamber.

No more Mosin for me. Only Mausers and model 38 Arisakas for rebarreling with thight chambers.

That depends about being disappointed. I seen a guy just the other week shatter clay targets off a 100 yard dirt bank with an M44 and he did it three times in a row shooting while standing unsupported.
Mosins are awesome, especially if you handpick them. Do your homework.

I think Mosin Nagants were great when ammo for them was less than $0.10/round just a few years ago. I think the same of SVTs and PSLs. Lots of inexpensive blasting on crudely built, strong designs.

Even though 7.62x54R is among the least expensive centerfire rifle cartridges, it has become more expensive to shoot. Not as fun (for me) when it costs two to three times as much as it used to for 'cheap' blasting. I have to pay this much AND clean up afterwards? Seems like it used to be one or the other.

I loved two or three of the Mosin Nagants I collected in a short time (especially this one), but I'll take just about any K31 off the rack and shoot it with confidence rather than sort through the chaff of other surplus trying to find a gem.

I picked up my mosy for 90, it's a blonde and is in great shape. I also got 300 rds for 60 bucks (milsurp), that have shot well. I just took it backpacking in a national forest 2 days ago. Lots of good times. I love my mosy!

I never got into MN's. I did come into 2000 rounds of 7.62X54R that I pulled all the bullets to use in my .303 loads. I poured all the powder out in the back yard and tossed a match on it, man did I have to take a few steps back.

I love how people are complaining about 2-3 MOA from a sub-$100 rifle. That's plenty good enough to hit a man sized target at 500 yards or more, provided the shooter can do it.

Last time I checked, the standard of accuracy for MOST milsurp rifles/ammo is 4 MOA. Anything better than that is a function of the luck of the draw/a dedicated program of accurizing rifles like the Finnish mosins.
