@MtnSpur:

You made some good points overall, and especially because you live in a very pro-gun state, panicking there is unwarranted and a good way to waste money. A Texas is best to ride things out. If you happen to live in CO, that's a completely different story as citizens who own guns were scrambling to buy goods when they previously didn't foresee the need to do so. Increasingly, gun politics is about the state laws IMHO. If you live in a pro-gun state, don't overpay. But for some people that want access to something before a ban takes effect, the limited supply may mean you have to overpay, or risk doing without completely.

Bought 60 rounds of 5.56 at Walmart this weekend...price was $8.97/20 and I just couldn't resist:neener:

Gave two boxes to my son along with a brick of 22 I brought out for him...I've got enough on hand.

Only thing I bought was 1050 rounds of .22 short for $90.
I did sell a couple of evil guns for rediculously prices, does that make me bad?

The only thing I really spent more on is an Egyptian AK47 (Maadi) in great shape, very accurate (knew the seller) with 4 mags and a mag pouch for $600. It was when your standard WASR was going for $900 (actually they still seem to be high) but obviously WASRs were going for $395 just a year or two ago. Still, even though it may be somewhat inflated I really like the rifle and am happy with the purchase.

I came out pretty good....

walk of shame: I paid $25 each for 4 East european ak47 magazines.

walk of victory: too many to enumerate. for example, 6 boxes of 9mm blazer brass ammo that I paid 7.99 four years ago was swapped for one-for-one for chinese flat-back magazines. I reload 9mm now, so it was no skin off my nose.

No shame here. I stocked up after Obama got elected the 2nd time. I knew he was going to "stick it to us" the first opportunity he got. I just never expected the Panic to happen. If things don't go back to normal in the next 6 months to a year I'm going to have to cut back on my shooting. In the mean time I'm using my extra (if there is such a thing) 9mm to barter for other ammo I need. 9mm is really at a premium now and I'm having no trouble using it for trades.

SKS

I bought a bubbad Yugo sks a few years ago but hated the duck bill mag so I sold it. Well I haven't found any all original Yugo so when I found one that had the grenade launcher and site removed plus bayonet removed I was a little unhappy. However with a trigger job, smoothed action, and being re-crowned I had to snag it up someone put all that money into it and I snagged it for 375.00. All matching numbers very well done beautiful rifle and it wasn't any bubba job so I had to. I gotta say I felt bad because I paid 200 for my first Yugo but I figured for that kind of work and it being hardly used and possibly becoming a banned gun (or so I thought lol) I bought it. I also paid 650 for a gen 3 G20 but plan on reloading one day and I hear it's thee gun to hand load for with a few minor mods.

Ordered ten 30 round AR mags from Brownell's. If I recall, the total including shipping was about $170.00. Not too bad considering we thought we were looking at a ban.

Not so hot when I think about getting 10 P-Mags for about $112.00 four or five months before that...

I think the most I paid for something during the panic was $15/box of 5.56 ammo when they used to be less than $11/box before December. Gun-wise I already owned most of the guns I have before Thanksgiving last year.

I also bought a Draco AK pistol for $700 in January, although I do not feel bad for that purchase at all.

$150 on ten steel surplus AK mags and $180 for two Mosin Nagants.

AIM Surplus was still having good deals all through the panic.

Most ridiculous thing I did was buy a 100 round box of subsonic 22LR for $7.99, when I don't have a suppressed 22 and have no intention of ever getting a can. Plus I didnt even really need any 22LR - I just bought it because it was the only 22 ammo they had left and I didnt want to walk away without it.

Still haven't fired a round of it.

I bought a bunch more AR mags but I paid pre panic prices for everything.

Things here in Colorado got really weird in a hurry.

I still have two outstanding orders from Dec. and Jan. that I'm not sure will be filled.

I spent a BUNCH more on activism than I did on magazines, that's for sure.

My worst offense: bought 100 rounds of .223 at Walmart. I do not have a rifle in that caliber.
I was at Sportsman's Warehouse a few days ago. I was surprised to find several dozen boxes of American Eagle XM193 (55gr FMJ) out on the shelves. Something like 8 bucks per box. I don't even own an AR15 yet, but I was tempted to buy a few boxes.

18.99 a box for 8 boxes of WW .308 180g Power Points. I didn't want the ammo, I wanted empty brass with the same headstamp to start load development with for my new rifle.

Two things,

I was offered 6k in cash and trade value for a FDE Scar 17 and didn't take it. No matter, the FDE versions are still going $3500 these days.

I should have bought a unconverted Saiga for $400 two months ago. They were $7-800 at the last show.

My worst offences would be 2 SR9 mags for $45 each and a brick of SRP for $42. My shame goes both ways though I've sold off a few 550 packs for $40-$50 and sold a home built AR for $1550 was about a $350 profit.
