went out yesterday and got in some more trigger time on the Sig P229, I still have a little Glock finger going on but I'm adjusting quickly, this is one fine smooth running pistol and I am impressed with it's performance so far.

for those who haven't seen it yet it is a 2003 without rails and very low mileage

took a few DAO shots from 10 yards

then a few PDQ shots in SA from 10 yards at the head was surprised by the 3 in 1 but also managed to miss the head twice, but that was on me ,not the pistol

after that I moved out to 25 yards and 3 barriers I have set up there and started going for CM shots while running back and forth between the barriers and shooting around each side of them from a kneeling/covered postion, was perfecty happy with the results I turned in.

I haven't taken it out to 50 yards yet but with a couple seconds interval I'm confident I can keep a mag in the kill zone.

If you haven't tried a P-series Sig before rent one and give it whirl...you may really like it

Looks like you had a good time, you might be surprised how well you can shoot at 50 yards. My first try with a pistol at 100rds I didn't figure I'd even hit the target and it was a lung shot.

Looks like you had a great day at the range with your P229. I bought mine (P229R), several years ago, used but like new in the box with three magazines. Price on it was too good to pass up and I really wanted a rail to mount a light for home defense use. Icing on the cake was the factory installed Short Reset Trigger and night sights.

I'm pretty comfortable at 50 yards with most pistols these days (the Glocks are a challenge) I just haven't had time to get out that far with this one yet.

I've always had the urge to buy a Sig 229 or a 239. A buddy of mine has a 229 and I really like the way it feels and shoots. That's a bit odd as I've owned both a 220 and a 226 and I didn't like them, they felt and shot differently though.

I like yours without the rails.

I have had two P220s and two P220 Compacts, two different P226s, a P229, a P239, and a P232 in the past. The only two that I came back to and still own is my P229 SAS Gen 2 and my P239 SAS Gen 2 (well I also do currently own a P224 and a P320 Compact in addition). The P229, IMHO, is one of the best overall carry/range pistols (great balance of size, grip feel, and capacity) out there (my other favorite for this category is the G19/G23).

I agree! Though I bought my P229R primarily for home defense duty, with a decent holster (like this DeSantis E-Gat), it does very nicely in the CCW role as well.

OWB I have this bangbang leatherworks that I use with a cover shirt

IWB I carry appendix, using a cobbled together frankenholster for that right now, it's ugly but it works well.

The P229 is IMHO about a perfect do all carry gun, big enough to shoot well out to 50 yards, small enough to easily carry, enough oomph for most of the lower 48 country and enough rounds for the city.

I like Sigs! The P229 is a good gun but I like the P226 especially for the range. For me the P229 is a little big for carry. I currently carry a G27.
I currently have a P226 and love the feel of it in my hands. At some point I may look for a SA P226.

Here's mine- daily carry although I use different holsters (non are IWB). I find the size perfect for carry and control.

These are railed, although I would have preferred no rail.

Very nice classic P229, no rail with legacy slide. Is that a 9 mm?

I think the P226 and P229 are among the best hammer-fired, DA/SA pistols ever made.

it's a .40 , the only 9mm it will ever see is a .357 Sig if I pick up a barrel, but that is doubtful, the .40 is just too easy to choose a load for anything you want to do with it, whereas the .357 Sig is best in it's 1 trick pony guise of a 125 gr bullet doing 1400-1500 fps, anything less you can duplicate with the 9mm , I can just cover more ground on both ends of the power spectrum and a wider range of bullet weights with a .40

Now that you mention it, I kinda like my non-railed 229s (my old police two-tone and newer M11-A1), although my Legion is spectacular.

My P229R is a .40 caliber as well. I have a 357 SIG barrel for it, but have not used it a great deal as yet, due to ammunition costs. I do not reload.

As for 357 SIG being a one-trick pony in 125 grain, both Hornady and DoubleTap now offer JHP loads in 147 grain with advertised muzzle velocities of over 1200 fps. Standard pressure factory 9mm Luger loads in 147 grain do not touch 1000 fps and even the Federal HST 147 grain +P load manages only 1008 fps. The 20+% increase in velocity for the same projectile mass would seem to be of some value.
