This weekend I was out on the lake enjoying the water when I got an email alert from AIM. I checked it out real quick and saw they had the P226's and P229's for <$400. I tried to get a 226 but they were sold out by the time I logged in. I did manage to snag a 229 though. I know nothing about these guns as my Sig experience is limited to my P2022 and a Montage Swisse 225 I bought as a gift for my dad last year. I liked the feel of the 225 so if it's anything like that I should be happy with it.

Did anyone else get in on this deal? Has anyone picked one up from AIM? What condition was it in?

You got a solid deal. I knew about the impending sale but was not in the market for another Sig. They will show wear but should be in very shootable condition.

They sold out very quickly. I was relieved to see that they charged my card this morning so it went through and I didn't get a "Sorry, we are sold out" email. I will admit I was a bit proactive and called them at 9:05am to make sure everything went smooth. We'll see what comes in the mail. If I hate it, it's definitely worth what I paid and shouldn't be hard to sell.

I never really intended to start buying Sigs. Now I'm up to 3 yet I still consider myself a "Glock Guy". How's that work?

My P229 from AIM arrived today. It came with two mags and a case. The ad never mentioned night sights so those were a surprise. They still appear to glow very bright. The slide shows a some honest holster wear but I like it that way. I stripped it down for a good cleaning and found the gun to be in overall excellent condition internally. I assume the barrel was originally blued but mine has appears to have been stripped at some point. The grips are clean and the frame looks good. There is some finish wear on the front strap that appears to be from a ring or possibly the holster but the metal is in great shape. Mechanically the gun is very sound with a very light, crisp trigger. I'm really not sure what I'm planning on doing with this gun. I thought it was a good deal so I got it. I'll try to get to shoot it here in the next week. I called Sig to ask them the manufacture date but they said their records only go back to 2005.

What can I say

...

Good price, great 40's

I think you guys are gonna "enjoy" the 40cal with the "balanced" 229's.

Having 2 (both bought used also) I can't say enough how good and a joy to shoot, both with or near 7K flawless rounds in my hands..

They are my_workers when it comes to my small herd

Hogue rubber side panel-only grips and one with a Wolff 17lb main spring and the other with an 18lb main spring..

Smooth, easy, quick, DA's and the SA's just "happen" when I press the shot/s

Very nice. I would consider swapping out the recoil spring just because you have no idea of its age and use. It is such a cheap part but can go a long way to preventing damage from excessive wear and malfunctions.

Congrats!

I have a P229 .40 that I really like. Pickup a 357 Sig barrel for it (drop in, no fitting needed), and the .22 conversion kit is worth checking out as well. Mine is a non railed version like what you have there. To my eye these are the best looking Sigs.

I don't see any smillies on the end of the barrel? May just be the photo. Smillies indicate the barrel is locking up properly. Without them the accuracy is degraded. Have you determined if it has the SRT (short reset trigger) in it.

Good buy.

It has them. Since the bluing had already been removed I polished it out a little with 000 steel wool.

Can you explain how to do that? I have been trying to figure out if my 229 has one. I know you should be able to see it if you remove the right grip, but I've done that and I'm not sure what I'm looking at. I would love to see a picture of one that has it and one that doesn't so I can match mine up

I just took a picture of mine, can anybody confirm which I have?

remove the slide, and show me a picture of the top of the frame, looking down at the fire control components. I'll be able to tell you. I had mine switched to an SRT back in November.

If you know what the reset is supposed to feel like on a stock 229, then the way to check by "feel" is to pull the trigger fully to the rear and hold it (make sure it's not loaded first!). Cycle the slide by hand, and then let out the trigger slowly. When it "clicks", that's your reset. The SRT is exactly as described-it's SHORT. Perfect for a single precise shot or firing fast strings.

Looks like a nice buy. The internals appear new still. Must not have been fired much at all.

I picked the slide up at the gunsmith last night and got the gun put back together this morning. The bead blasting really brought the slide back to life. I really like the way it looks now. I'm not trying to make a show piece, just trying to make a great carry gun. I am probably ordering the E2 grips as well.

You can see the texture of the slide better in these two shots. It is uniform all over with no odd discolorations or texture changes.
