So they've declared a state of emergency in all 67 Florida counties. What has this to do with guns? Believe it or not, a lot! Once the state of emergency has been declared we're prohibited from selling guns or ammo. We can return guns pawned to us, however.
So if someone needs their own firearm for protection during the state of emergency, we can redeem it to them. But, I hope they have ammo as we can't sell that for the duration. Seems strange to me, but then I'm not a legislator.

I believe the thought process behind moving the guns out of the display areas is to prevent looters from acquiring guns during a calamity like this.

Oh, yeah, they all go in the vault.
Actually some people are surprised when we tell them they all go in the vault every night. "You don't leave in the cases?"
I imagine there's some fools who might leave them out if they have a small selection, but even then, why take the risk?

I received this email from "Center Mass Gun Range" Okeechobee, yesterday.

"According to our local ATF reps, we are allowed to sell firearms and ammo during the State of Emergency as the Governor did not specifically state that there is a ban on the sales of such items.

As long as no ban is in effect, you can stock up on these products now!

A ban may still come down the pipe if the storm hits hard, but at the present time you can make your purchases."

That statute I quoted is under 870.XXX which is the section about "AFFRAYS; RIOTS; ROUTS; UNLAWFUL ASSEMBLIES". Not sure if that is a special kind of state of emergency, but both googling and bing searching "Florida state of emergency guns" in any order that's all that comes up.
Side note re: my sense of humor.
First time we boarded up for a hurricane the bosses wanted me to text them a picture of my store all ready. Later, in our photo editing program I added, as if spray painted, "DON'T OPEN DEAD INSIDE". and emailed that to the boss. I got a very fast reply "You didn't spraypaint that on the plywood, did you?" I guess my editing capabilities are pretty good. LOL

Latest tracks showing it coming more towards you guys from Vero to Miami; stay safe!
'preciate the thoughts. I'm wondering if we'll see folks putting up those "you loot we shoot" signs. So dumb. Could really affect a court case later if they did shoot a looter, I imagine.

Lindsey Graham explained a few days ago why a person would need an AR-15, and specifically mentioned a hurricane with power outage and police stretched thin as a possible scenario. He said something to the effect of if looters see a person on their porch with an AR-15 they would likely bypass that house.

I am protecting my cooler with an M1 Garand, 16 inch bayonet fixed.

Checking Wunderground, if I lived in Central Time Zone, that might miff me a bit. Especially since there and the Gulf coast look like they are getting nothing but some thunderstorms.

Of course, Tallahassee routinely forgets those parts of Florida on a regular basis, too. But, in some fairness, most of those folk will not need to buy more ammo or firearms--unless they are on sale [:)].

I believe the hey word is : Pursuant to
Automatic emergency measures.—Whenever the public official declares that a state of emergency exists, pursuant to s. 870.043,

which says

AFFRAYS; RIOTS; ROUTS; UNLAWFUL ASSEMBLIES View Entire Chapter
870.043 Declaration of emergency.—Whenever the sheriff or designated city official determines that there has been an act of violence or a flagrant and substantial defiance of, or resistance to, a lawful exercise of public authority and that, on account thereof, there is reason to believe that there exists a clear and present danger of a riot or other general public disorder, widespread disobedience of the law, and substantial injury to persons or to property, all of which constitute an imminent threat to public peace or order and to the general welfare of the jurisdiction affected or a part or parts thereof, he or she may declare that a state of emergency exists within that jurisdiction or any part or parts thereof.
History.—s. 3, ch. 70-990; s. 1400, ch. 97-102.

I am not a lawyer so I shall leave it those to decipher.

Just a heads up. those folks in Georgia and the Carolina's need to stay tuned to the ever changing forecast!!

Gee, that is an awful name for a Gun Range! Perhaps
One Shot Kill" or something "Tactical??:scrutiny:

In the shooting sports the term center mass refers to the largest area of a given target. In the arena of self-defense for citizens or tactical training and operations for law enforcement officers, the center of mass is where we aim to stop a violent offender’s life-threatening actions as quickly as possible. Our company was founded in 1996 with a single objective; to help our clients save lives.

If you get up this way, you would be impressed by this indoor range. It's on the money. Price reductions for veterans and seniors.

So on Saturday, August 31st here in Gainesville, Fl I decided to look into this.

What I found is: Wal Mart and Rural King are not selling firearms or ammunition due to the State of Emergency, but Bass Pro IS selling both. The clerk at Bass Pro asked "why wouldn't we be selling ammo and guns?" when I inquired.

I believe we are dealing with differing interpretations by different merchants.

I've never found it necessary to buy either during a hurricane, but it is good to know.

Yeah, and interpret it wrong and you can be wearing that ugly orange jumpsuit. We try to err on the side of "We might be wrong otherwise"

Why they have been talking about making your hurricane preparations early; to me, that includes ammo along with water, food, batteries, lanterns, charcoal and generator fuel

George... A rational person would be doing just that.
The Army taught me the Rule Of P.
Prior Planning Prevents Pretty Poor Performance.
