Yesterday, my new Private's grips for my new .44 special flattop arrived.
Looking at them, they didn't look to be much thicker than the factory cheesegraters.
Once I held them next to the factory grips and installed them on the gun, the difference was very noticeable.
Smooth, thicker, much better feeling and fitting.
I'm happy.

Crappy cellphone pic. They're holly, as in wood. They resemble aged ivory, without the high price.

Thanks. I thought about sending him or CLC some mahogany to have him make grips for a couple of mine.

I really like a reddish-orange grip better, most of the time.
These holly grips just spoke to me. They said, "Looks like ivory without having the expense of real ivory.
Plus, it's going to be carried in the woods while hunting. Don't want to take expensive ivory grips into the woods.
I've liked holly grips since seeing them on a 1911, in a 1970s Gun Digest Annual.

I like those. Makes me want to put my redwood back on my .44 Mag, but then I couldn't hit anything with full power loads.

I am going to buy me a .44 SPC flat top. Like that caliber.

They look great! I went with the American Holly also from Privates. Love the ivory-like look without the ivory price. The only thing I added to mine was the Ruger medallions. To me they make the grips appear like they came from the factory.

Me too!

The picture does not do them justice, but I could not be happier. Fit, finnish and handling are outstanding.

I hated waiting a month and a half for them, but it was well worth the wait. Mr. Schultz does some fine work. I love the way they feel.
What i the hell was Ruger thinking, putting checkered plastic grips on a single action revolver?

the grip frame is thinner on your gun than the original flattops. those grips probably worked well on the older guns. guess the factory didn't think much of ergonomics this time.

no matter, i'm just glad they finally came out with the smaller framed blackhawk.

Good stuff! Looks great and I'll bet it's infinitely more comfortable.

Yep, the old XR3 hard rubbers are fairly comfortable on the thicker aluminum XR3 but on that new thinner steel XR3, they're just way too thin.

That .44 Special being blue with white grips is super cool. Now to get the wife to go along with buying a new SA big bore.

I'll buy the grips, and then explain that I need a gun to fit them. ;)
