When people like that try to engage me, I find it more convenient to adopt a fighting stance, use the "stop" hand signal, and say "NO, I am not interested." Give them a very hard look and start moving left or right.

It's very important that you move. They have a plan for you in that spot, so disrupt their plan.

Did Massad Ayoob just make an appearance here? Seriously, you do that for someone just asking a question? I'd hate to see you in a mall walking past those kiosks where each person manning them says "Excuse me, can I ask you a question about <insert product here>?" That would make for a funny looking trip to go shopping.

That reminds me, I need to work up my list of snappy responses to people trying to sell me a cell phone. I had a good one last year that really ticked one guy off, but I can't remember it now. :uhoh:

When I see someone like that on the street I simply ask them for a dollar as I make eye contact. It usually baffles them and they don't know what to say.

Ha, that's pretty funny. Being a fan of another football team in the center of Buckeye Country, I've started to do the "I--O" arm and chant thing at Buckeye fans. They almost always start to do the same thing, then get really flummoxed when they realize I didn't give them an "O--H". Talk about derailing someone's train of thought....
