IMNSHO
Don't need a specific forum for "Serious Situations". [ The initals btw have been cussed and discussed also in "those " threads...too numerous to count, in regard to ROC for THR].
That said I was raised to be responsible for self, prepared, if you will. Be it the threat of missles from Cuba, riots, tornadoes...etc. We were also taught to shoot, shot placement, reliable with ammo in that gun everytime.
We had multiples of same guns, if things do get serious one can't run to gunsmith now can they?. Intead of Iwannacoolgunvirus, we saved our monies, had patience and often bought two or three used quality firearms instead of buying just one new one...especially one of the latest greatest whatever that came down the pike...
I have always used 1911 style, BHP , or old smith wheel guns, K frames especially for CCW. The 1911 style especially is favored by me , it is an tool unto itself, takes the abuse, and a few parts put back will keep this gun running...Especially the closer to the "old Gov't "model one stays.
So I don't have to pick one, I have CCW-ed for many many years. The CCW is most likely to be gun you have when you need it--it should be. Patience and paying cash, has served me well. Lessons learned from elders still used and applied.
I apply this to other firearms as well...shotguns, rifles.
I only keep CCWs here in my dwelling...any long guns are kept elsewhere. Then again do I ? Was there cash , patience and used guns involved perhaps...?
Just my .02
YMMV
