Yes, I've been in a similar situation. Don't usually keep around more than one of a particular type/caliber just because I know I won't use them all that much.
Example. Purchased a Mossberg M44US 22lr from the CMP. VERY nice bolt action 22, EXCELLENT sights, slick action, a true "tack driver". Was very happy with it ... and even more so when I scoped it. (and if anyone is looking for a nice bolt action 22, with a bit of history to it, CMP still has some of these left ... you aill not be sorry)
Anyway, about 6 months later my dad gave me his Winchester 72A 22lr bolt action rifle. This is the first gun -I- ever fired ... some 50 years or so ago. Still in 90%+ shape, and as accurate as the M44. Don't need 2 bolt action 22's, so I sold the Mossy. Never regretted it.
Now have a Mossberg KB640 "Chuckster" in 22 mag that I don't shoot much anymore. Use to be my woodchuck gun when I lived in the finger lakes of NY. ('Chucks there still tremble at it's memory!) I'll likely be selling that shortly so that someone else can enjoy it as much as I did.
They are primarily tools. The ones I use I keep. The ones I don't use I pass along so others can enjoy. I figure the guns are happier being used as well.
