Think about this? (What Places are Inappropriate for Concealed Carry?)

The post office is not a legal question mark. Carry in a post office is unlawful. There is no question about it.

You're forgetting subsection D. Carry in a federal facility is legal if it's incidental to hunting or other lawful purposes.

Carrying with a permit to defend myself and my family certainly seems lawful to me.

(a) Except as provided in subsection (d), whoever knowingly possesses or causes to be present a firearm or other dangerous weapon in a Federal facility (other than a Federal court facility), or attempts to do so, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 1 year, or both.
...
(d) Subsection (a) shall not apply to—
(1) the lawful performance of official duties by an officer, agent, or employee of the United States, a State, or a political subdivision thereof, who is authorized by law to engage in or supervise the prevention, detection, investigation, or prosecution of any violation of law;
(2) the possession of a firearm or other dangerous weapon by a Federal official or a member of the Armed Forces if such possession is authorized by law; or

(3) the lawful carrying of firearms or other dangerous weapons in a Federal facility incident to hunting or other lawful purposes.

Commerical aircraft and courtrooms --

I don't want the Rambo Mall Ninja, untrained and clueless, to try taking out the hijackers.

There's a reason for armed guards in courtrooms -- These places attract violent crimminals and retaliatory emotions. I want metal detectors and tight security.

(3) the lawful carrying of firearms or other dangerous weapons in a Federal facility incident to hunting or other lawful purposes.

This "exception" has been bandyed about in other forums. Some attorney types suggested that this "exception" allowed carry in a post office "for legal purposes."

The final legal opinion cited was that "carrying a firearm in a post office is not 'a legal purpose'." I believe the site was "American Back Yard" -- run by Massad Ayoob, Dean Speir and their brace of specialized lawyers.

But go ahead . . . I'd like to see some case law developed in the courts on this point. :what:

Not sure I understand the notion of "inappropriate places" for CCW. It might be useless, and thus harmless, but ... inappropriate? Since when is being prepared to defend lives "inappropriate"?

Additionally: what about travelling to/from the location/situation in question? I may feel very safe at my parent's home, but I sure want handy CCW during the 1000-mile drive to/from there (and it would be just as important if only 1 mile). Transitioning to/from CCW is typically much more "inappropriate" ("'scuze me while I dork around with this dangerous thing in a publicly-visible and awkward location...").

You are way behind the times. That part of the regulation has been around for a while but the Postal Service has updated its regulations to make it pretty clear that carry in a Post Office is illegal.

A gun lawyer had a nice write up on the law you quote for many years.

His article is gone and in it's place there is :

Analysis by Robert P. Firriolo, Esq. usually at
this URL has been removed pending a review
in light of recently revised U.S.P.S. regulations,
specifically a new introductory clause to 232.1.

So, when the pro 2A attorney that has been arguing for Post Office carry changes his mind, it's probably time to rethink things.

IMO, the only place ccw is a no-no is in bed when having "fun"! it would be rather uncomfortable to say the least! or maybe going for a mri. other than that, you should be able to carry.

Read any news story in your local rag and you will know that as long as it is legal to carry, I will carry anywhere I can. I refuse to be a victim to a lower life form because I had a feeling of discomfort for having my sidearm in a long john silvers.

This is purely hypothetical as I'm in England.

I'd say no open carry in church, but given the choice i'd like my dad (a minister) to cc at the alter. Hell, he could turn the service into a funeral saving time. and planning.

If I were allowed I'd carry everywhere except impractical, ie swimming and such like.

I carried to an amusement park once.
I found out on the scrambler that a Don Hume holster will reliably hold a semi-auto handgun at about 3 G's.
But a Kahr magazine WON'T hold ammunition at that speed.

I carried to a funeral yesterday. Probably wasn't necessary but I figure that carrying is like anything else - the one time you REALLY NEED the gun, you won't have it unless you carry it all the time.

Last year I carried to my friend's wedding.
So did my brother, my friend, and the pastor. :)

I probably wouldn't carry if there was a lot of risk I would fall and land on it, like when skateboarding. When doing something where I'm slightly less likely to fall and land on it, I might do something like carry a revolver with the hammer on an empty chamber, but the rest loaded.(With a revolver, that's still ready to fire.)

I might not carry when practicing martial arts, since there's a risk of hurting someone else if the bump in to it.

I do not carry at work because it is prohibited and cause for immediate termination. Otherwise, anywhere else, except where specifically illegal (because of "dumb" laws :barf:) my gun goes with me.

Not the shower though.......... :D

The alcohol thing bugs me a bit. I certainly don't see the problem with carrying in a bar if you are not drinking. And ignoring legal ramifications, I don't have a problem with a person who knows he can have a drink or two without being substantially diminished by it. "Zero tolerance" equals zero thought, in my book.

The legal ramifications deal does have merit on the surface, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it just doesn't hold up, because bad things can happen in nearly any situation. What if you have a beer while watching football in your living room and somebody breaks in? Is it then inappropriate for you to use any kind of force because the housebreaker's attorney might turn it against you?

Except for the person who never uses any intoxicant in any amount, the slight possibility that you may someday have to use force with some type of intoxicant in your system is ever present.

.38 Special:
Can't have any alcohol in your system and only prescribed thereputic amounts of drugs in your system here in NC

What about a church function or a churches fried chicken. I never carry when I go eat,, I know that may not be smart but I dont like having a loaded gun on my while I eat. I feel safe at dairy queen,,
