Thinking about getting a Marlin 336

The 30-30 is a 200 yard deer rifle. If you can shoot better than that from field positions (a bench rest doesn't count), then consider something like a 7-08. Otherwise, buy the 30-30 and enjoy. No worries. It will work great for your purposes.

I took down this large mule deer with my Glenfield carbine. One core-lokt bullet through the chest did the job.

I owned a 336w that was newer but made before Remington too over. I loved it. I had to sell it. Lately I tried getting another. But couldnt find used, looked at some new but there was something "missing" in the quality, maybe it was just me, I also shot a friend of mines in ky before moving down that was new and it wasnt very smooth.

I finally got a winchester 94. I suggest this over a new marlin from my experience.

Im not saying Remington has or has not made these guns not as good. I am just giving my experiance and my opinion based on that.

And by the way my buddies was not a bad shooter. Was accurate and reliable, and he used it to hunt and it did well. Just wasnt up to par with my old one,,, maybe I got lucky and its coinc6that it was pre remington.
