thinking about getting a Tokarev: CZ52 or M57?

I think .357SiG is the modern incarnation of the Tokarev concept. The 7.62x25mm cartridge has two things going against it as a commercial pistol cartridge, first it was invented over 80 years ago in the Soviet Union therefore it isn't new and exciting, so no gun writer is going to gush over it, and second as a defensive pistol round it has serious over penetration problems.
This is true, but to be practical, I never really look at the stuff like over penetration. I wouldn't choose either the tok or cz to go to war, I have much better options. I only target shoot paper, gongs and cans ect, so the penetration is moot for war but is good for target shooting.

I’ve got both and I like the CZ more. It seems to shoot softer and I think it has better lines. Also, you can get aftermarket rollers and firing pins that mitigate concerns about breaking.

I have shot my newly acquired Polish Tok, going to shoot the CZ today or tomorrow, I'll then see which one i prefer but i am keeping both!

I'm not all that worried about the firing pin, i dont think it breaks unless you dry fire it, which i never do. Now I'm even more confused which to buy, lol. If i could get my hands on a new chrome m57a, i would get that but i called zastava last week and they said they have been asking for them but have no eta if or when they will get some.

Buy one and have Mahovsky hard chrome it. He's quite reasonable.
