As the topic title states: this will be a gun for my wife. She loves my 1911 RIA but won't carry that when she decides to get her CCW. I want to get her a nice gun, and have come to the decision that she might enjoy this.

Now, the reason for the .45 is because she enjoys and is quite accurate with my RIA and shouldn't have any problems with the caliber. Now, with the weapon I would like for it to be a compact to sub-compact and a single stack.

I know how dependable they are...from the reviews. However I don't know comfortable they are to carry or easy for a pocket carry (sub compact) if I decide to carry this instead of my 1911 when we go out on a nice date.

Let me know the pros and cons...I will more than likely buy from budsgunshop.com when I do this.

Thanks

I have read that the early production Sig 1911s weren't so great. However, I read that the Sig 556 rifle had alot of problems too. Again, the complaints seem to be mostly with the early production guns. My Sig 556 has been great and I would imagine the 1911s are fine now. My only other experience with Sig is the 226 pistol in .40 and it is nice gun in a caliber I loathe. Sig makes wonderful guns and you shod be happy with it.

That said, I am a Springfield Armory guy when it comes to 1911s. I prefer a full size steel framed model to soak-up all the recoil. I find 4" models to be perfectly fine too. I am not a fan of 3" model 1911s. They seem to be a little more finnicky and that's not good for a ccw firearm.

Are you just looking at the Sig 1911 series, or would you / your wife be open to a Sig p220 Compact or Sig p220 Carry. Personally, I'd take a good look at the p220 series...

Since you say she won't be carrying your RIA, I take that to mean either you or her don't want her to carry a 1911 style Sig.

The Sig 220 in either stainless or alloy frame are very nice guns...I've been carry one for years

...but they aren't really something I'd think of as a pocket gun. Sig does make a Compact, but it really isn't much smaller.

For a high quality compact or sub-compact .45ACP, I'd recommend you take a look the Kahr line...P45 (compact), CW45 (budget version) or PM45 (sub-compact)

YES! 9mmepiphany has a fine candidate in that Kahr CW45. I own and revere a .45 SIG 220, but it's a full-size service pistol and hence bulky and heavy for a lady's CCW gun.

Just a couple weeks ago, I bought a Kahr CW45 for my wife. and we have just given it the "baptism of fire". VERY impressive. At barely 16 ounces, I expected it to be a bit punishing. Not so....it feels good in the hand, and recoil with full-power 230-grain ammo is not at all bad. The long double-action trigger pull is very controllable and only about 6 pounds in our example. We had no difficulty hitting plastic 20oz bottles at 25 yards.

This little gun is much more comfortable to shoot than my daughter's Springfield Micro 1911 .45...a bigger and heavier gun.

I am impressed, as I said.

I carry a SIG RCS 1911 it is nearly the perfect carry weapon. I was using a CZ 75D PCR, but wanted a good single stack .45 to replace it. I picked up the RCS in November, after extensive testing around 1500 rounds so far I have decided to retire from regular duty the PCR. I like the SIG P220 but the slide is thick, and while it has a decent trigger, its no 1911. The RCS has not had a single malfunction or failure of any kind, it works with any ammunition I've tried, 6 different types of hollow point, flat nose, ball and expanding full metal jacket. It is a commander length slide on an officer size frame. has Novak tritium night sights. It shoots, it runs perfect, it hides like a 2 yr old in a game of peekaboo. I have found the perfect carry pistol IME. Price used, was $850 out the door, new they run between $930 and $1050, the only problem with the RCS is finding one for sale.

I have a Sig P220 Carry, and I love it, but it's not an ideal CC gun. It's somewhat bulky and heavy.

Also, has she handled many Sigs? I ask because my Sig fits my hand very well, but I do not like 1911s. They don't fit, and they feel awkward as I have to change my grip position. There is a difference, and it might be important enough to make her not want a Sig.

Just my 2 cents.

I would let her make the decision, I would try to stay away from sub-compact 1911s. They are less than stellar performers, and many have a poor track record for reliability. For me a sub-compact is not a CCW of choice, but rather necessity. Let her try and hold as many pistols as possible, she will let you know what she likes.

I want to add that I have the Rock Island Armory .45 in the 3.5" model and love the way it hides. She won't carry that as a CCW simply because it weighs as much as her. She will however shoot the snot out of it when we go to the range.

As far as her gun for a ccw then we are still on the fence. It was recommend to look at the sig line and that is what I am doing. I haven't had the experience of a sig but I've heard great things about them.

I know she doesn't want to carry the 1911 frame or type weapon, but she can handle the .45 with zero issues.

I will look at those guns suggested.

P245... Original compact version of the P220. Its like a CCO Sig P220. Same length slide with an officers frame. No silly beavertail like the current compact. Great carry gun due to its alum frame.

How is she planning on carrying the gun? If it is on a belt the Sig might be too think in the slide for her. You might consider looking at the Kahr CW45 or PM45.
