The forward assist was never meant to force a round into the chamber by smacking it. If it takes more than a light tap on th FA to seat a round you have other issues that needs addressed. That is why troops were taught SPORTS to address any malfunctions.

Put some grease on the outside perimeter of the spring. It cuts down the sproing noise significantly.

I smeared it all over mine and it's deadly quiet now. Definitely a good tip for all AR rifles using a buffer.
