Hi,

A neighbor gave me three weights from a grandfather clock. They have thin brass sleeves with a removable lead core. Together the three of them weigh about 15 pounds.

Not casting lead bullets myself, and not knowing the usual composition of this lead, I was wondering if this lead was usable for casting bullets.

Thanks for any info.

To be honest, depending on maker, when it was made, etc, it could be any kind of alloy. I am willing to bet myself that it is pure lead probably. You will need to test it, to be sure. That or cast some up (a small amount) and test fire them. See if they lead.

If unknow what alloy, mix a small amount with wheel weights 50/50 and cast a few, if the diameter is OK as the bullets drop from the mould, they will be good to 900fps.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I'll pass these on to someone who casts his own.
