I took my wife and two kids (9 year old daughter and 6 year old son) to the range last week. I started my son off breaking clays with a little bb gun (which he LOVES) and then moved him up to the 10/22 youth model that I bought for the kids a few months ago. My daughter has been to the range with me before; I started her a few months ago on a Marlin model 25 (.22lr bolt gun)
This warms my heart....kids learning to shoot

Looks like fun. And good for you for teaching your kids early.
You might consider getting a red dot type sight for the 10/22 to make aiming a little easier for your son. You can get a BSA sight at Wal-Mart for about $30.

So will daughter let you borrow HER 10/22?
You know your son could pass for Larry Ashcraft shooting that rifle...your son might be a tad taller...

My Daugther has a pair of these ( Peltor junior ) that fit very well.

I do have a BSA red dot that I plan to put on it, but I wanted to teach them to use open sights first.
I have a pair of junior size earmuffs, but I needed two that day for the first time ever
The day she cleans it by herself is the day that I'll relinquish full custody to her!
As for the bigger guns.....well I thin k we're going to be a .22lr family for a while. I had my wife try the AR15 but she didn't like it. I think she'll like it more when I put the collapsible stock on it so it fits her better. It's an HBAR with a 3-9 scope and bipod on the front.....pretty big and heavy.
That's SO fun...I can sit in my back yard and do that. Daisy makes a little bb gun target that holds little clays and as you break one, another falls into its place. Of course, the big clays are so cheap and much better for teaching the youngsters.
