Hello everyone,

So last weekend i won a $400 gift certificate to a gun shop. I have narrowed my choices down to three but they are on different sides of the spectrum. I was just looking for some of your thoughts.

So choice 1: Rock island tactical 9mm. This would be just for plinking.

Deer hunting choices:
1. Ruger Super Redhawk .454
2. Glock 21 10mm that would be upgraded with Trijicon RMR sights.

I know that these are all apples oranges and lemons but i just wanted to see what some of you would do. I also know that I am going to have to add cash to get these.

I would stay away fromt the RIs, handled one at the last gun show. You wont go wrong with either the Ruger or the Glock.

Quite a variety, are you going to be doing more deer hunting or plinking? For plinking the RIA is the best of your choices.

The Ruger Redhawk is more than enough for deer but a bit much for plinking.

The Glock would do for both but again, a bit much and expensive for plinking.

I have a RIA .45 and it is just fine, not to worry if you go in that direction, someone who just handled one at a gunshow won't have enough experience with them to matter. :)

I'm gonna say the Glock because I want one :) I would go with the Redhawk if you had picked anything other than a 10mm

What are you planning to do more often? That is what you should buy. I have a 23 and 27 Model Glock. I like 40 since it's everywhere. Its compact enough for EDC.

10mm is not as easy to find at a good price, unless you reload.

I am going to also recommend against the RI.

Either the Glock or the Ruger Revolver are good choices, although I think I would rather see that Super Redhawk in the standard 44 Magnum.

I have a Glock and Ruger Revolvers, you won't be disappointed.

If I were you and wanted a revolver for hunting, I'd switch to a Super Blackhawk Hunter or Bisley Hunter in 44 magnum. You could tone it down to 44 special to target practice with.

However, given the parameters of your OP. I'd choose the Super Redhawk. They're built like a tank and will serve you well for a couple of lifetimes.

Get the .454. Then you'll have the excuse you need to get a Puma rifle in .454!

Choices

If you haven't shot the .454 Casull I will advise you to do so before you take the plunge. It's a pretty stout round unless you handload and can tame it a bit. The .44 Mag. will do all I want and need in the Redhawk, Blackhawk, or Smith 629.

I don't like Auto's but I was thinking about a MD33 Glock. That was yesterday, today I don't know, after reading that thread about a crack that is on so many of them.

How much are you going to spend on top of the gift card?

Of your choices, the G20 is the most fuctional. But it's expensive to shoot. If you reload, I'd say G20 will allow you the most uses. If you don't reload, and you want to hunt, I'd take the Redhawk.

Have you thought of a S&W 460? I think it shoots 454 and 45 Colt as well.

to answere some of the questions I have nice little collection of handguns. a G19, Sig p250, RIA tactical .45, 2 BHP 9mm, ruger MKIII hunter, Sig mosquito, and a Diamondback .380.

I have a buddy that let me put some rounds through hi super redjawk in 454. He started me off with a couple .45 colt rounds then moved up to some 300 gr 454 brnes hunting loads. I understand that it can be stout but thats why i want it.

I went to the gun shop the other day and we talked out prices. I have decided to get the ruger. I am getting it for dealer price + tax. so after all is said and done i will have to put 350 cash into it. So I am basically getting a 1000 doller gun for 350. Cant beat that. Also if i ever decide to sell it i will make money off it.

To address the RIA i have one in .45 and love it. It might not win a beauty contest but it sure is fun to shoot.
