thoughts on which one? 1895g or 1895gbl

well I am in the mood to buy a new 45-70 leveraction rifle been drooling over marlins leveraction 45-70 rifles and I shouldered the 1895g at the gun shop as they didn't have the 1895gbl so not sure about fit? but the 1895g fits great! and but really like the looks of the 1895gbl over the 1895g but I like the 1895g model just fine so what ya'll think??

I think the G models look better. The straight stocks are kinda hardcore in the sense that they have more in common with a british side by side shotgun than with the run of the mill tacticalized rifle out there. Also I don't think the small levers are particularly small. They are a good size! If you'be found a well priced 1895g rifle that gives you the right tingle then don't hold back! If you would ever change your mind then I'm sure you'll find someone willing to pay for the g.

Buy the rifle, post pics, instill lust for the beautiful machine in the souls of your fellow highroaders!

Personally I like the gbl I think the longer mag tube looks better and the big loop is nice for my big hands, the g is just a bit lighter and less expencive than the gbl at the cost of looks (personal opinion) and capacity

If it were my call, and the rifle checked out OK, I'd get the GBL over the G. I have a 336BL in .30-30 and I think it's a great handling and sized rifle, minus a couple of quibbles (it's a late JM/New Haven gun). I remember spotting a few 1895GBLs at the same gun shop about the time of the New Haven to NY move, I wanted one but was into other hobbies and didn't investigate them too closely.

The larger loop is probably my favorite feature of the rifle. The stock Marlin levers are a bit small if you're wearing any kind of glove, in my experience. But the BL lever solves that issue completely, and it's notably slower to operate. Also, having the magazine tube extend all the way to the muzzle just makes the rifle look correct to my eyes.

Personally I also like the looks of the GBL model over that of the G but either one would make for a great .45-70 rifle. Let us know what you decide to go with.

The GBL addresses three of the most common changes for the G: big loop, full mag tube and PG stock. If those features are more important to you than the G's half-mag, straight stock and standard loop then get a good GBL and be happy. I've stuck with the 1895G, but really, get a good one of either that makes you smile.

The cynic in me thinks the GBL and other models introduced about the same time were brought on because Marlin figured they might as well sell them direct to buyers instead of letting WWG get all that business.

I have a G, and like it a lot, but Id like it better if it had the full mag tube the GBL has. I just think they look more balanced with the longer tube.

I dont like the pistol grip/large loop levers.
