So there I was, working late to be ready to teach a CCW class tomorrow (actually today), updating my slides, printing the tests, and pulling the handguns and CCW gear that I'll be using for demonstrations. It's about 1:30 AM, and I'm almost ready to hit the sack. And then...

THE STUPID SAFE WON'T CLOSE!!! I figure some of the guns inside are in the way, so I pull them all out. No joy. I play with the lock, thinking it may have some electronic safety that holds the door open under some obscure conditions. No luck. I feel all around the hinges and door jabs for obstructions. Nothing. I swap out the batteries in the electronic lock. No change.

Now I'm getting where I need to do something, because I don't want to leave all the guns exposed, so I hide them around the house, so there'll be SOME security while I'm out tomorrow. Before I hit the rack, I make one last check...

The smallest allen screw you ever saw was in a corner of the door frame. Damn. Now I have to retrieve everything and stow them in the safe again.

I'm going to bed now. Night-night.

Done that before...working my car...go to shut the hood and it doesnt shut, end up inspecting everything trying to find what is blocking it from going down. An hour later I notice the socket sitting on the edge of the engine bay >_>

Sad thing is I've done that more than once...

That's okay... I have a small locking gun cabinet that is stored in the closet of an empty room in my house. The key to this cabinet is on the same key ring as my car keys, and the key naturally stays in this lock while the cabinet is open.

As such, I routinely seem to "lose" my car keys when I'm running late to work. I usually seem to look around the house for about a half-hour before I realize that they are in the gun cabinet in the empty room. Honestly though, this problem really only happened maybe 5-6 times before I figured it out. Sigh.

Yoda,, I do not understand. Why did you not use The Force?

My uncle had that happen. It was a screw from one of the bolts in the door. He had to have a locksmith drill a hole in the door to retract the bolt to open the door.

Oh I get soooo pi$$ed when my time is wasted.

I'm awaiting an ammo delivery I ordered 7 months ago from CMP. They sent it FEDEX requiring an adult signature AT THE ADDRESS! UPS usually just rings the bell and leaves the package. But noooo not Fedex ...

First day delivery was at 10am, while I was at work. Notice left asking for signature. No problem. I signed the slip and left it on the door. Next day delivery attempt was at 3:30pm. No dice. New slip left stating IN PERSON signature needed. Ok. Went home and waited for over 3 hours during the day waiting for delivery. Finally when I had to leave I talked to a neighbor to see if she would sign. No problem. I left a note clearly explaining to deliver the package next door. No dice. Notice left that he would try a 4th TIME.

I talked to CMP about getting the requirement lifted and they said when the package is returned, they will reship it an remove that requirement.

Bottom line, whether it was CMPs instructions or Fedex's rigid standards, I wasted hours between driving back and forth to work and home, time on the phone, waiting at home, writing notes back and forth with the delivery guy... So darn aggravating. I mean, it's not like it's plans to a nuke, national secrets, etc. It's a box of ammo!

Remarkable!

That was one of the few problems Duct Tape and/or WD-40 would not have solved.

Who'd'a thunk it?

'Twixt those two items, I've saved probably 1000 man-hours during my lifetime.

Oh, and clear nail polish.

Oh, and a magnetic pick-up tool...

Ummm, make that 2000 man-hours.

I once stripped a Mauser bolt down to the safety 10 times to see why I couldn't get the safety into the "bolt locked" position... I tried, and tried, and tried...

The bolt handle was barely hitting the stock imperceptibly stopping the bolt from closing.

Okay, I had to look it up too. Now I feel I'm lucky to be alive. I was once trapped in an elevator and out of frustration kicked the doors, dislocating my toe. I never got it fixed.
