Tikka t3 problems

Boy, great replies. Hummer thinks I'm a bad shot, the obviously well heeled SilentStalker questions my veracity and mental state because I'm a first timer, and apparently, the Pope really does reload his ammo. Good ole' dubbleA agrees with me. Between the cost of mounts, ammo and scopes I would easily triple the cost of this gun. I have an Edge that I got for $300 out the door with the scope. It shoots 50 grs. into a quarter all day, dirty or clean, hot or cold. It seems the Finns haven't mastered that yet. Their arms should come with the target and bullett type included and decent mounts, when offered. I'm going to dump the Tikka and buy a Savage. I know it don't cost enuff SS. Thanks guys.

LOL. Sometimes even nonsense gives you new ideas. I've been called everything from a newbie to a fat redneck in a red pickup truck. Looks like you are on the right track to more entertainment around here, and a new Savage in real life. Onward to Accutrigger. Good luck and good shooting.

I guess most noticed that Dino never responded to whether or not he ever contacted customer service about his issues.

He'd rather talk about his exploits in the military over forty years ago.

Good luck with the Savage. They too are great rifles from my experience. Sorry if I rubbed you the wrong way, but you have to admit that when one comes on here and their first post is bashing a well known company's product, it comes off as a little odd.

And, I still would have called their customer service to see if they could satisfy you first but that's just me. Savage's do just fine as well. when you get the new one I would love to see pics of the set up.

Way ahead Water, wouldn't be here if I hadn't been there. I realize there's room for error in any mass produced item, but a firearm is a little different for me. Besides, all the shipping & stuff is a hassle. As far as "military exploits" , I have known men who landed on Omaha, survived Inchon, I sat in total darkness in the central highlands and I could see NVA at 50 ft., my kid has got 3 tours of Middle East under his belt (with Bronze Star). I don't believe stating that one day as a kid I out shot some other kids falls in the "military exploit" catagory. It was just to explain that I have some history with firearms. I do, however, have a story that goes with that that I tell my friends. No offense taken SS, just pullin' your chain a little. If Selma Hayek was kissing my bullets I'd brag about that 1/4 moa too.

Send your Tikka to me, then you will have a clear conscience and then go get a replacement.....

I'm starting to detect the faint odor of troll.

He has some history with firearms but when he has a problem with one it's too much of a hassel to pick up the phone and call CS.

Better cool it if you care to keep this forum alive. You know we are being watched right?

My Tikkas have no problems with factory rings and they shoot groups ranging from one hole up to maybe 1.25" when I do my part. No problems whatsoever, quick easy sight-in, and scary accurate.

My tikka 3 lite stainless wouldn't shoot for nothing, I tried reloads, factory rounds,i moved the Col.all over the place,i cleaned the barrel,i changed scopes, still this new rifle wouldn't shoot a good group, I would have welcomed a 4 in group at this time. I tried 40 gar. To 62 gr.the more I shot this gun the better it grouped, after 200 or more rounds, it now shoots 1/2 or better groups, I guess it needed to be broke in,and I'm using the factory rings ,and Nikon scope,

280 I would presume you also got the note that gun was tested and would do an inch. My CZ got a rag down the barrel and one box of shells. The Savage, I discovered, will shoot anything with a boat tail. Some better than others. It doesn't seem the Tikka should need hundreds of various and expensive rounds to "break it in" since it was supposedly verified at the factory. Tikka needs to do two things: First, fix the mounts so they fit tightly in the grooves on the action and add better screws. Cheap fix but it isn't done yet. Second, show me the target with bullet weight type and make included so I have a starting place. Lastly, and unrelated, when I fired 5 or 6 shots quickly to see how bad it would "heat walk" the barrel got so hot you couldn't touch it. Something that didn't happen with the old Sako or Rems in that caliber. Just my experince. Does yours get hot?

Can't remember if I mentioned it before, but it was exactly how my Tikka surprised me. The shots started veering off target. I was shooting mostly UMC and Remington in 223 all 55 gr, back when the stores had them permanently on sale for $5 a box. You?

Dino,

Have you checked to see if the barrel is free floating, you should be able to run a dollar bill all the way to the receiver?

YZ haven't tried any Rem ammo yet. Won't know if t heat walks until it groups. Hog the barrel is free almost to the action but I understand that is just as it should be. Offered it for sale today.

Does your rifle have a synthetic stock? I have heard numerous complaints about the flexible forearms on Tikkas with them. I have a Steyr M Professional that came with a 1/2 MOA test target at 100m. Any variation in rest point or support on the forearm caused it to shoot as you describe your Tikka's performance. I'm convinced Steyr shot that target in a jigged up test stock. Long story short, pillar bedding and then major bedding from the action forward to the end of the forearm fixed the problem.

It should be free floated to the action, betting 5 minutes of work will cure the problem, but it seems you would rather sell it.

Here' the deal Hog and Hop, the pressure point halfway down the fore arm is supposed to be there. Sanding it out voids the warranty on the stock. Supposedly Sako tests these guns action and stock together instead of just the barreled action. Don't know if that's true. They use Sako ammo. Sako makes 3 weights and 4 bullet types of .243. The warranty says it will shoot 3 types into an inch. Is that 9 shots or 3. No one knows. Here in the U.S. they use Federal ammo as do I. CS doesn't know the type. ANY variation in the depth of the bedding block of course effects the tweak on the barrel when tightened because of this pressure point. For the cost of wrapping, postage and $70, Tikka will check your gun which still won't make the metric mounts any better. Tikka says they think I got a lemon but the cost and hassle are still the same. I didn't get it sold yet and foolishly, I'm thinking of trying to make lemonade. Thoughts?

dinosaur1,

if you have the money and the time. there is a reason that gun shoots lousy. you may find out why, or, after much money and time, you may not find out.

sure is satisfying to find out!

most low-end rifles are inaccurate due to stress in the action. relieve the stress and the gun should shoot much better.
