Much to my despair, I am forced to put everything up for sale. I want to keep one. Currently, that one is the SP101. Your thoughts are welcome. Come Mon – Tues You should see these in the trading post. Which one (1) would you keep and why?

Inventory:
Browning BLR .308 – never fired. Light weight, straight grip. Yes, it comes apart.
Henry Golden Boy w/ Octagon barrel and brass fore arm band. Round count ~500
Benelli Nova w/ 2 shot factory extension. Round count ~50
Marlin 1894c .357. WWG extractor, follower, trigger/sear. XS rifle sights, custom latigo leather/ brass sling. Boyt case. Round count ~500

HK USP .40 SS (Full size) w/ two 13 round mags and eight 10 round mags. Round count ~2000. Andrews Leather IWB / Crossdraw holster.
Ruger LCP. Two mags (1 w/ finger ext.) and Galco pocket holster.
Ruger SP101 2¼” .357. Round count ~2000. (done by me: No sharp edges, trigger job, grip shaved). Two speed loaders.
Browning Buckmark UDX. Tacsol barrell, compensator, top rail w/ integrated sight, front sight, 5 factory mags, Universal Clip Loader, Custom Pelican Case. Aimpoint Comp ML3 2moa w/ Larue QR low mount. Spares for all internals. Round count ~5000 by me - no clue by previous owners.

I have all original parts, boxes and paperwork for all. Except for the Buckmark. I bought it used but still have the original slab side barrel and grips.

cyclops is correct.....when one has to sell off personal property to make monthly bills....how long does that put off the enevitable?.....when everything is sold....what ya gonna do then when the rent is due?

While that's a good point, let's try to stick to the OP's question.

1894 - I've been in the same situation, man. It sucks, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. If I had to hold onto one, and could afford it, I'd hold onto the SP101. Some of the others might be slicker or whatever, but the SP101 leaves you with a good-quality, reliable gun that's plenty capable of filling the roles of plinker or HD/SD gun.

Thanks Kingpin. For your thoughts, and for keeping this thread on track.

Surely you can find someone to live with for a while, or apply for some kind of assistance?

Selling things you own to pay for transient expenses is not the best course of action...

Do you have a friend you can sell them to? That way you can get them back when you get back on track. Hard choices, had to let go of a brand new HK USP for the same reason.

to op: Id be torn between the hardest to replace vs. the one I'm most proficient with.

Let's not outguess this fellow's financial condition or options, folks
He posed a straight forward question.

I agree, keep your preferred carry piece.

I'd let go of the HK USP and the Golden Boy. They both have a decent strong value in the used resale market, and both can be replaced and found easily if you like them enough to own them again when your financial situation gets better.

Forget selling to "friends" so you have the option to buy back. It just doesn't work that way these days and this will only "destroy friendships".

What to keep depends on what will do you the most good.

Yeah, I'd have to say the SP101 is the most sensible decision considering keeping only 'one' that can possibly pull double (or more) duty.

You can certainly use it for CC and HD. And, though some may argue the HK could cover both of those bases, I don't think it would carry nearly as comfortably as the SP.

If I could figure out a way to fit that BLR in my pants, I'd probably walk with a stiff limp 'til I got my finances in order. ;)

Good luck and wise choice on the SP.

This is something to think about for sure.

However, to answer the question, if I could only keep one, I'd keep the SP101 also.
It's small enough and light enough to conceal every day. It's got plenty of power for home defense as well. If I can only own one handgun, it's got to be a good defensive carry gun. The long guns are nice, but I will not be carrying them around.

Also, be careful not to overevaluate "strong resale."

I like HK USPs, a lot, but I would not buy one with 2000
rounds through it without a significant discount from new price.
Some people think that since the stainless ones are discontinued, their
half worn out piece can command new price. (It can't, there's
plenty of NIB ones floating around.)

I'd keep the SP101 just because it sounds like you put some work into making it yours. I would be that the SP101 won't net you much money because people tend to want guns that haven't been worked on by the previous owner. Keep it and you will have a good defensive handgun until you can get back on your feet again.

I'd keep either the SP101 or the GP100, depending on whether you carry more or run around the boonies more.

Been there, done that, too. :( That's why nowadays I have a lot of guns I'll never actually shoot.

I know the feeling - working overtime nowadays to stay ahead of the wolves, since bills runneth past my static income, (no raises and two pay DECREASES in the last 4 years), so I wish you the best. I agree, keep the snub, good do-all gun.

The SP and the 1894. They both use the same ammo, and with those two you can handle any two legged threat and four legged "threats" up to deer and hog size.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

Strongly agree. Don't ever mix business with friends or family. Sure, it can work out well, but it almost never does. No amount of money is worth your closest relationships.

I wont 2nd guess any of your decisions.... tough to have to make. Good luck to you.

In order
SP101
Marlin 1984 357
Buckmark

I may be interested in the Marlin.
