Tactical Response will be coming to you in 2005. In addition to our courses at our home range in Camden, TN we are being hosted in several other states. This allows our students to train with lower travel costs and less time away from home.

Even if you aren't able to take a class with us, please take formal training somewhere. Don’t buy any more guns. Learn to use the ones you already own! Make a commitment to yourself to take at least one class in 2005.

I'd be interested, but

the only class I could make it to (Pueblo West, CO) is the only one already full.

We should be back to Colorado in the fall. Nothing is finalized yet but the student response is always very strong so we try to make it back there a few times each year.

Any chance we'll see something in the midwest this year? Caseyville was convenient - Indy would be fantastic.......

I would encourage those of you who are afforded the luxury of nearby, top-flite training to make every effort to take advantage of it.

Bix,

We should definitely be back to Caseyville this year.

How much training have you had? I'm setting up a force-on-force class in Indy for late this year but it won't be a class for beginners. Prior training will be required as we want to fit in the maximum amount of scenarios without a lot of downtime.

I drive 7 hours each way to teach in Camden so I know the hassle of traveling for training.

My shooting buddy and I have done about five beginning, intermediate, and advanced classes with LFI, DTI (Farnam), Hackathorn, and, of course, Tactical Response. By the end of the summer, we will have another 4-6 under our belts [Just heard that we lucked out and got slots in the Pat Rogers carbine course in Boone County!]

If it sounds like we'd be a good fit for the class, please shoot me a PM with details. If we can get it into our schedules, I can send out completed applications this week :D

Just curious, while on your website, I noticed that you require your courses to be taken with factory loaded ammo. Any particular reason for this?

Bix, you sound good to go. I'll be in touch.

Petrel,
Just pulling a statistic out of the air I would say that 99% of ammo issues (squibs, double charges, wrong powder loads, bad crimps) are with home reloaded ammunition. Reloaded ammo is almost never as reliable or has the same quality control as factory loaded ammo. It's easier to teach someone how to fight with their guns if you don't have to keep stopping to find out why someone's gun won't run or to pound squibs out of their barrel.

Another way to look at it is if you have spent the money to take a class it isn't that much more to buy good ammo for the class. Bad ammo can seriously diminish your training experience.

ShackleMeNot,

Not sure if I totally agree with you, but I can see some point in that. Thanks for the response.

I see all you're having in Atlanta is TAC Shotgun, not to interested in that, but maybe when a pistol or carbine class comes to town I would be more interested. Keep us informed.

Thanks again.

petrel800,

I'm sure we'll be back. You might want to check the other classes on Dave Blinder's schedule. He hosts some good traveling instructors.

Hi there... I'd be interested in learning more about the class offered in May in NY. The location just says "Long Island" though. I couldn't find any more specifics on the website. Where on the Island?

Thanks,
- Pete45

Sorry about the lack of details on the site.

The NY classes (Tac Pistol and Tac Rifle) will be held at the Calverton Shooting Range in Calverton, Long Island, NY.

If you have any other questions let me know.

Did you say 'Force on Force in Indy'? :what:

I've got family up that way....I may just have to impose on them. :barf:

Seriously, Tactical Response puts on top-notch training and I always reccomend them.

As soon as dates are available on the F-o-F, let me know.

Hey there neighbor! I live in Murfreesbor (2 hours) and would love to come your way sometime and doing some pistol courses. What would you suggest for someone who has not had any "technical" training?

I am a fairly decent range shooter (NOT great though) and would love to go through the requirements (legal and tactical) to receive my CCL. What would you suggest and coul dyou explain costs, length of time (classes) etc for me. Also, how large are the classes? Indoor v. outdoor?

Thanks and sorry for so many questions.

David

I was interested in your Tac Pistol course in Phx until I realized it's on a Th-Fri schedule. Put it on the weekend, and I'd have signed up. All my vacation time for the year is already spoken for.

Let me see if I can answer all your questions:

1. Our Tactical Pistol class has no prerequisites. As long as you can be safe with a firearm you should do fine in the class. For someone who has no "technical" training we would ask what we ask of all our students; please come to the course with an open mind. You will do some things that you may not have ever done before and we will ask you to try different techniques from the things you may have been doing for years. Our goal is not only to make you a better shooter but more importantly to make you a better fighter.

2. I definitely think you should get your CCL. I don’t believe our Tac Pistol course is accepted by Tennessee as fulfilling the training requirement. Most of our instructors are certified Tennessee permit instructors but Tennessee also has a requirement that the range the course is taught at be certified as well and I don't believe that our Camden range is certified. I will tell you that our Tac Pistol class goes far beyond the basic CCW pistol courses taught by most schools.

3. The Tac Pistol course is 2 days and costs $300. You will also need to budget for ammo (1000 rounds) and any gear you don’t already have such as a holster and a few spare magazines.

4. Class size depends on many factors. As it gets warmer classes tend to get bigger because nobody likes to train in the cold . Our typical pistol class will have 8-15 students. Our typical ratio is 1 instructor for every 4 or 5 students.

5. Our range in Camden has a shelter over the back portion of the range but it is an outdoor range. We shoot rain or shine.

Check the Tac Pistol course description from our site. It may help you get a better feel for what you could expect at a class:

If there are any questions you have that I haven't answered or anything you need more clarification you can post here or email me and I'll help.

I sent my deposit in for the April class. I also live in Murfreesboro and I am really looking forward to taking this class. I have had a bit of formal training through the Army but nothing that was worth a crap . Looking forward to having some fun.
