Is open carry the same as carrying the gun in your hand? Walking around with a gun in hand will get lots of attention. Even for uniformed police, when they move around with their duty weapon "in hand", people notice and MOVE.

Also, without really trying, we "read" body language pretty well. If that guy was broadcasting trouble then you reacted just fine!

Mark.

Again I have to ask what did he do that was illegal? Did you see him threaten anyones safety or damage someones property?? Not according to your post. So why did you call the police??? You don't really post ANY details that makes anything you describe a crime.

No I would not have called the police.

I Guess I'm An Evil "Flammer" But,

Here Goes:
I don't see that any crime was comitted. I'd like to see a one armed black man "cocking " a GLOCK while hidding it by his side though.
But seriously, you said he was walking an "intercept course" to what? Was there anyone else on the street? Did the guy present a credible threat to anyone you could see (including you) ?

Unless there was a clear indication that my lack of involvement was going to hurt someone, I would have kept right on going.

I am NOT the "eyes & ears " of the police

Interesting that you could tell it was a glock.

You were the guy on scene, you had to make the decision to call or not and you did.

You will probably never know if what you did was "right" or not.

Signals.

wacki,

You did fine.

You were reading the room and picked up a signal early.,

The "earliest" signal allowed you take action.

This is the key.

While other early signals were processed, that first signal, being read as early as it was, was the key.

These signals allow us safe distance.

no need for a crime to have been committed- you're a citizen doin gyour job--you saw something that didn't look right and there were no police around, so gave them a sitrep to go investigate, for THEM to make the decision regarding crimes committed or not.

Anyone walking abou tcarrying a gun in a purposeful manner out-of-situ (not at a range, gunshop, etc) is up to something.

Isnt Brandishing against the law everywhere ? Even if open carry is leagal, Its my understanding that you cant just walk around with a gun in you hand racking the slide...its a no brainer to me..you did the right thing. to all those who said he shouldnt have called the cops..what if this person was walking down your street, or towards you with gun in hand racking the slide, are you saying you guys really would think "no big deal..he's not threatning me." ? :scrutiny:

Yeah. Big difference between open carry, and having a weapon in your hand out on the street. Brandishing goes out the window if you have a good reason. And if you have agood reason, it's good to have PD on the way.

I suppsoe if I thought about it enough I could come up with a scenario where the action of the gun handler might have been innocent, but not being there and thus not seeing the incident in its totality, I am inclined to accept that the OP did what he thought the situation called for.

I think you did the right thing any time somebody has a gun in the hand in the city something is going on, but your guy was racking the slide telling me something was going to happen in the next 2 minutes. Any time you have a situation like this and you 1. get out ok and 2. no shots are fired you have done pretty good
