+1 on the worse trigger thing for strkers. That's why I only buy Walther, HK or Canik. I don't like bad triggers, which is why I'll never own a Glock or a Sringfield. S&W performance model has a decent trigger, but I try to stick only to guns that have been used in combat, or are combat level tested (Forget the name of that test)

buddyd157:

You need a basis for comparison. Shoot a Smith & Wesson revolver in single action mode, doesn’t matter which model or caliber.

That is what a good trigger feels like. If you can’t shoot small groups with a Smith & Wesson as a single action, it’s you and not the gun.

Oh I've shot a couple, excellent triggers. However I am not a revolver guy for self defense. I may buy one just to have one though.

My point is, learn to squeeze the trigger on the gun in your hand as if it were the trigger on a S&W. Groups will shrink.

ok, so i picked up my newest purchase, the Canik TP 9 SF on monday Feb 23rd. but all the ranges were closed due to the governor's orders, saying that they were "non-essential". well that quickly got struck down by my state's version of the NRA. so i had to wait till this morning to go shoot my Glock and this new Canik, i left the CZ at home.

the trigger pull is fantastic on this Canik. i shot off 100 rounds, 124 gr, S&B's FMJ.

the Glock, i only shot off 50 rounds. i wanted to limit the rounds now going thru the Glock, as of today, it now has had 1010 rounds thru it.

the CZ now needs to catch up, as well as the Canik

here is a pic, of the 1st 50 rounds from the Canik

the 2nd 50 rounds, i was off a bit more

I've heard a lot of good stuff about the Canik brand, but I've never fired one. It does look like yours has potential to be an excellent shooter. I can't seem to pry myself away from 1911 platforms (see various posts about triggers) I can't stand to shoot anything with a bad or for that matter ok trigger. If it's not a good to excellent trigger, I'll never be able to love it.

Good logic, longer, smoother travel.

No - Almost no travel - just a very crisp , clean break.

Too much time at home ... I'll post a recent target , FWIW.

I am breaking in a Walther P99 as , and conditioning to striker at the same time. Round count is at 300 ; things are coming around.
Distance 11 yards , off hand. 15 round group. Slow fire , 3-5 seconds per round.

(Yes , I posted this in a different thread - like I said - too much time at home!)

Do you happen to know the diameter of your target area? Based on the size of the holes in comparison, I still can't tell. Don't you know you hold fish close to the camera, targets farther away...

IMG_1764.jpg Well , I figured that the 9mm bullet holes would provide perspective.
Here is better disclosure.

i "might" go for a 1911 in the future, but ya know what, as addictive as this sport/hobby is, i fear i might have to buy a bigger home to store all my stuff....lol

(something the late George Carlin said)..the only reason why you move, is for more room for your stuff...lol

Everyone has a preference and personal requirements. Some prefer capacity, concealability, or commonality. I prefer clean, crisp triggers with virtually no take up and short reset. And reasonable accuracy. If you're ever in South Central Ohio, you're welcome to shoot anything I have before you decide whether to shop for a 1911 lol

I'll also gladly take just about anyone shooting if you want to come to eastern Kentucky (close to Hindman) to do it! I think most of us here would. I don't have any 1911s though. Yet. I do have a couple of pistols with what I consider to be nice triggers (meaning almost as good as a good 1911 trigger). CZ-85 with a Cajun Gun Works single action only trigger and no firing pin block safety; and a Tanfoglio Witness Limited with a Hennings SAO trigger (also no firing pin block safety, although it matters little-or nothing-on the Tanfoglio).

So, if anyone wants to come shoot, send me a PM.

buddyd157, what distance are you shooting? I don't recall seeing it listed anywhere.

at this shooting range, pistols at 7 yards, rifles at 15 yards.

the reason i cannot say. but that is about 20 -21 feet. maybe they are "assuming" the average length of a home hallway for self defense..???

as at least 1 range officer did mention 20 feet in your home..????

Can you not print your own targets and take them? But yes, that is one of my favorite drills! If you can, start on those little circles at about three yards. That's where I try to start folks. I'd say that target you posted isn't bad. You really should try shooting from a rest to establish a baseline of knowing what the mechanical accuracy of your handgun/ammo combination is. You know, get as much of "you" out of the equation so you can see how much you can improve; as opposed to seeing how much better the gun could shoot. We don't know what ammo you are using, and some ammo is going to be more accurate than others.

Sorry, when I said "eastern" I really meant it. And on the south side of "close to Hindman" too. I do get up to Lexington to shoot Steel Challenge though, but I'm not actually a member of that club, so I can't "take" anyone shooting up there.

When I want to improve my pistol shooting, I use smaller targets farther away. It’s easy to just kinda blast at something relatively large and close.

If you want to get humbled and at the same time improve your grip and trigger control, find something like a plowed or dirt field and put a 12” diameter target 40-50 yards away.

I shoot a .22 pistol here on my property. I’ve got a 16” x12” steel silhouette at about 40 yards. There’s loose dirt so I can see misses.

IMO, most semi auto pistols have bad to really bad triggers.

I have some good friends from Knott County. Hindman area...walkers branch. Don't talk to them nearly as often as I should. Haven't been down that way in forever either. Used to shoot squirrels from my buddy's porch down there.

I drive past that road on my way to work.
