I have a top break .32 six shot revolver. It says US Revolver Co on top of the barrel rib. The number under the left grip is 96408, no letter prefix. It does not have a "hammer the hammer" transfer bar. It has US grips.
I have a few questions about it.
Is a US Revolver distinct from an Iver Johnson revolver, or would a US Revolver barrel fit perfectly on an Iver Johnson frame?
Does the number under the grip without question indicate a US Revolver?
Should it be fireable as single action, or is it supposed to be double action only?
Should the firing pin be hidden except when fired? Should it be visible only momentarily when hit by the hammer? (When the hammer is down on mine, the pin is extended.)
I can feel a detent when pulling the hammer back and I wondered if perhaps it is worn, thus not allowing the double action or not making the hammer bounce back after firing, to allow the pin to recess.
I know this is a lot of queries, but I would appreciate some info before I go in and try to repair or replace things. Mick
