Top Excuses to Give the Wife Unit For Buying A Gun

Small world

Partisan Ranger - I'm from the area too. Stephens City. As a matter of fact, I bought my Mauser at Old Dominion Sports. :)

Look - it's simple. I'm a woman. I commute 63 miles each way to work every day. I break down near Mt. Weather, and I have no cell signal to even call for help. What's to stop some "helpful" motorist (read: psychopath) from taking advantage of me? My Mauser, that's what.

Your wife may not be in the same boat as I am - I don't know. All I know is this: the gun is THE most effective tool of self-defense available today. Are you getting a fire extinguisher for your house in case there's a fire? I would hope so. You also need a gun in case there's a home invasion. Think it doesn't happen in this area? Pull up the Winchester Star and compare two cases:

1 - Angela Dodson, who shot her estranged husband a year ago after he broke into her house, cut the phone wires and tried to break down the bedroom door where she cowered with her children.

2 - Terry Presgraves, who was fatally stabbed by 15 year old Matthew Van Emburgh during a home invasion.

One had a gun. One didn't. Get it?

Oh yeah, almost forgot!

Forgot to suggest. Have her check out Armed Females of America and articles such as this one and this one

No, I'm not implying you're a wife beater, nor am I engaging in shameless self-promotion. (Well, OK, maybe a little on the last one, but not really  ). Both articles address the issue: the system will not protect you, and anyone who tries to say it will is not your friend.

Good luck.

This may work for you, it did for me. I stopped complaining about all the shoes, purses and clothes that "she just had to have." Another good excuse, I mean reason, for her purchases, "well they were on sale." I told her I had no problems with her purchases as long as she didn't have any problems about my firearm purchases. She's happy and I'm happy. Hope that helps.

You mean my wife isn't the only one who says "I just had to have it" and "it was on sale so I save 25%'? I thought I was the only one.

And regarding the system not protecting you....I read at a pro-gun site about a court case that showed that the police do NOT have an obligation to protect the individual, only 'the public.'

Positively hair-raising.

Ranger, that's correct. They do not have any legal obligation to protect you. Show her those Winchester Star articles. They just might sway her.

Where in Winchester are you?

We live between Route 7 and Route 50, off Greenwood Rd.

I've noticed a lot of crime stories in the Star. I have a hard time believing crime can be worse in Winchester than close to DC. I figured the Star just doesn't have anything else to run.

But my wife commutes on 7 to Ashburn, and there ain't nothing out there if you break down. I would like her to get her CCW too. She COULD carry openly if she broke down, but I doubt she wants a revolver dangling from her hip....

The Star

I don't think crime is as bad in our neck of the woods as it is near DC. It's just the opposite, actually - it happens so rarely here that when it does, the Star beats it to death until there's no other angle to cover. The two stories I mentioned were biggies just for that reason. The thing is that if it can happen here, it can happen anywhere! That's why it's always wise to have a gun.

I commute East on 7 as well - all the way to Tysons. Your wife would be very wise to get a CCW. It's no hassle at all, and it takes a few weeks at the most.

Partisan Ranger,

You have a huge advantage over me. My wife has been sucked into 'guns are bad' and other left wing crap.
Yours is pro-gun. My wife calls herself Democrat, but when I push her on certain topics, she clearly thinks
more conservative (although not nearly as much as I). She has just gone with the nice messaging and feels
that if all guns were outlawed, nobody will get shot.

She's also a fiesty italian - So as the saying goes "I married Mrs Right. I just didn't know her first
name was Always".

When I told her I wanted a handgun, she flipped. We argued directly and indirectly for a week at least
(directly = our situation, indirectly = general pro vs. anti). But I had 2 things in my favor.

First, I already owned a shotgun. So when she "didn't want guns in the house because they were unsafe",
I had demonstrable proof to the contrary.

Second, I crammed - and I mean crammed - on every possible response to every possible objection she could
make. I prepared - before I told her what I wanted to do.

After our week-long blowout, I bought a sig226 in 9mm. I had told her what I wanted to do, but I never
told her about actually buying it. No need to rub her face in it. That was over 6 months ago. Since then
I have been to the range many times, alone and with friends. I assume she knows by now that when she
sees me walk out with the case that I must have bought the handgun by now.

Be upfront - but remember, to ask permission is to seek denial.

Lastly, be smart. Don't buy a gun if you need car repairs or if your credit cards aren't paid off. Do what
the URL says and always take the high road. Your mileage will vary.

Gunstore guy volunteered what he figured was a one-time-use "I won it in a raffle." Thought that was kind of humiliating but didn't hear the rest since I had to stop off and pick up some ribbon for the basket of cheer I'm expecting to "win."

Ok, take it from someone who has had to do this for the last 24 years.....

GET RID OF THE WIFE ASAP!!!!

The sooner you get rid of her, the more guns you will be able to afford.....don't even get me started on the kids......

I should never have gotten married...jeez, I could own a gun shop by now!!:banghead:

Well, it's pretty simple. "Here's $574 for you honey, I just bought a new gun." Guns are very expensive in my household.

Top Excuses to Give the Wife Unit For Buying A Gun

I used somthing that was and is the truth in Maryland...the govt doesnt want me to have one and they making every effort to do just that.

Now, that being said, I also make damn sure that she getsa whatever she wants whenever I get whatever I want. When I bought my Kimber, We got for her some new Kitchen appliances (stove, fridge, dishwasher) I am setting up a reloading system, and she will get outdoor furniture and a sewing machine.

Makes things a little smoother.

I think the right excuse has been hit upon, but you can use it one time. "Borrow" the biggest, ugliest, dirty, dog you can find, take it home and explain to your spouse that it's for home security and cheaper than a gun. You will have permission for your gun purchase in miliseconds.:D

Telewinz, AWESOME!!! Just make sure the dog is incontinent and has mange and fleas! :D

Having had the defense angle sewed up for quite some time now, I cant use that. So now I find myself using the 'investment. angle. Honey, do you realize that this gun will be worth 5 grand easy when they outlaw them? She let me take out a personal loan to buy an M1A that way. But the last time I tried this angle she caught on and said, right, like you'd ever sell one. Which is right.

So Now I cant use that angle anymore but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. She dont like having a car with more than about 80K miles on it. When she says you dont need that gun, you've already got one that's similar, I say, yeah, and their building cars now that'll go 200K miles. Then we talk business, She gets a 10000 dollar car, I get a gun. Seems pretty fair, its only money. She's happy, keeps up with the jones's or whatever and I get guns that'll outlast any of the junk cars out there.

Its only money and she's happy. What a concept. Works for me. (She'd probably make me buy her a new car anyway). Lieing to your wife would be bad juju. It's only money.

Oh, one thing that worked once for me was:
Honey, I want that gun.
We cant afford it, we need to pay bills.
Honey, we'll never be able to afford it cause the bills never stop. If we just Took the money and bought it the bills'll still be there and will let us pay em next week.
Sounds stupid but it worked. The utilities didn't get shut off so we lived right through it. Bang!:neener:

Regarding bills always being there...exactly. Especially with this, our first house (new and nice but still needs a lot of stuff) I could literally put off the first gun purchase until I'm too old to lift it.

I am just going to do it here in the next couple weeks. I still want to go to another gun store or two and see how the guns I'm considering (compact for carry Sig, Glock, Kahr .40 or 9 mm probably) feel in my hand. I'm a lefty, so that's another thing to consider.

I'll probably buy off gunsamerica, they seem to have the best prices I've seen. Gun shops always seem higher, even though I have to pay for shipping/transfer online.

Tell here "it's either guns or sex" ... depending upon how long you been married, she may even buy the gun for you!

Besides, you're not buying a gun .. you're "investing in precious metals"! :neener:

I just buy them without asking. "Honest honey, it's just been in the back of the safe."

Seriously, my wife just leaves me alone and rolls her eyes when I buy a new gun. She did get excited about my new AR-15, though. They are banned in CA, where we just came from, and she wanted to shoot it because she said it would make her feel naughty.

Just bring it home.

"It's a gun? ... It's a GUN?? ... I'm sorry, baby, I thought I was getting a nozzle for the water hose." :uhoh:

Best Reason so far!!!!!!

Do you REALLY want our home to fall victum to the ravaging rouge biker gangs???
