A couple years ago I bought my son some toy guns for christmas. The diecast revolver with the 8 shot ring caps. Some rifles ect. Now trying to find ammo for them is almost impossible. I went to several places and belive it or not most stores now don't even sell toy guns! Not to mention ammo. At toys-r-us I asked the manager if they carry any toy guns and he told me we don't sell them because that's not a good example for kids! We exchanged a few words in a civilized manor but to no success. But they still sell swords and baseball bats? So I don't shop at toys-r-us anymore.

Sorry you cant find what you're looking for. You might need to go to specialty type stores or some "old school" stores that aren't so Magoo when it comes to firearms.
You shoulda told the manager that since you couldn't find stuff for the toy guns, you'd have to graduate your son to the real thing where there are supplies
btw, whats the brand on those toy guns? Any chance at looking up the manf of the old snap rings?

I stopped going to toysrus a while ago, not because of the gun situation (although I noticed they no longer sell nerf guns ) but because they carded me when I tried to get in. Yes thats right, I got carded at the door. Now I was 20 at the time, and I looked easily 25 years old. They were carding everyone, because they didn't want anyone 17 and younger in without their parents. Talk about stupidity

I've taken him to a local state park to watch me and my brother shooting clays and archery practice also. He loves launching clays for us and wants to get into archery as well. I did find ammo/cap rings but not at toys are us. When I do find them I buy a ship load. lol

Sounds like you found a place that has 'em. You might also poke around on the web. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to find a specialty website or ten that has has this sort of stuff.

Explain how a business open to the public, that does not sell legally age restricted items, can ID potential customers when entering the store? I'd get the news, and state you are being age discriminated against....AARP loves that stuff.

About 5 days after I was there, the news did a report about it, saying they were doing it to keep the kids out that should be in school. I guess the person working at the door was blind, because I can't remeber the last time a kid that was 17 an younger had a full beard/mustace, and was six and a half feet tall lol. Also, what happened to all the Nerf guns? I remember there was atleast 14 diffrent ones when I was a kid, yet when I was there, I couldn't find one Do places no longer sell them, because they are to close to a real gun?

Check any "dollar store." My son gets them all the time.
A local western wear store sells cap guns, you may want to check there. And the last time we needed caps for one of the grandkids (a few months back), we found them at, you guessed it, Wal-Mart.

When I was a kid you could buy toy guns and various types of "caps" (paper and plastic) anywhere. Toystores, drugstores, large chain grocery stores, little mom and pop corner stores.
Carded to enter a toystore? When I was 10 to 14 yrs old, I used to buy my cigarettes for my Aunt every time we went to the candy store/corner market. I quess all parties involved would get arrested these for that theses days.
There was many an afternoon spent playing Cops and Robbers, and Cowboy and Indians (Disclaimer: yes I know the name and playing of these games is no longer politically correct. Oh well, that is what we did and called it back then). Of course, if you could not round other kids to play, a box of paper caps and a stone out by the curb would provide hours of entertainment.

Try the capgun section of ebay for both caps and for cap guns that were made in the early days - many of those made in the 1950's and earlier are high priced collectables now. Particularly the ones with Roy Rogers, or Gene Autry embossed on them.
I went to a Toys R Us a couple of years ago, looking for birthday presents. They made me hand my backpack in at the entrance, in case I tried to steal stuff.
I argued with the guy, but apparently it was a "nation-wide policy", so he couldn't do anything about it. "No bags except women's handbags*". (I almost asked "What about gay men's handbags?", but thought better of it). I also started wondering about how much stuff I could hide in the pockets of my combat trousers, but I'm too honest to put it to the test (even under provocation).Never been back to a Toys R Us since then, and don't intend to.
* I think you call them purses in the US.
when i was younger (23 now, so maybe 10-15 years ago), TRU had lots of cool guns, MP5 looking things with adjustable stocks etc. So did Rose's which i think is defunct now. My favorite ever was a 92FS that had a detachable mag for the plastic strip caps, whenever you shot one, it would clip it off and eject the spent cap, way cool...
Hey guys/gals thanks for the replies. I just can't belive how hard it is to find these guns/ammo. I know there still available(I've had the best luck at the local summer festivals/fairs)but years ago it seems every store I went into there were tons of toy guns. My son is 12 now and next year he will be shooting clays with dad. I've got rid of a lot of his toys he doesn't play with any more but I WILL KEEP HIS TOY GUNS!! That way his kids will have them to play with even if it's illegal.

I was never allowed to have toy guns... maybe it is because " guns are not toys " and I was taught that at a very young age.
I really have a hate for the air soft guns, a bit of black marker makes them look very real and that isn't a good thing in my opinion.

I agree in principle with the 'guns are not toys' philosophy, but I was raised with a healthy amount of toy guns and there was never a question in my mind between how to act with a real gun and how to act with a toy.
It's likely because I was exposed to the real thing by my father, and that he taught me to respect the real thing.
I can see that if I learned firearms handling from a toy, then purchased my own real gun without a role model to teach me, I might have some problems!

The coolest toy guns I ever had....
A double Barreled shotgun w/ outside hammers
An M16 that had casings that actually flew out(of course I lost them in about 2 days)
a Walther that when you pulled the trigger ,the slide went back(it was like a 20 lb. trigger pull)
Then of course sometime you had to make due w/ what was available...we used a cast iron water pipe for a bazooka
