I was at the gun show last weekend and had my Five-seveN and all my ammo as bait mainly but also to see if I could do any trades or anything. So long story short I got a beautiful (2006 date code, so pre Remington!) Marlin 1895 Guide Gun in 45-70 that if I didn't know any better, I'd say it's never been shot lol. The barrel looks brand new and the bolt wasn't covered in brass shavings and junk. The action is very tactile and stiff. There is a small amount of scuffs on the stock but otherwise it's in very good condition. The guy I traded with also included 5rds of Remington 405gr SP ammo and 40rds of Armscor 300gr JHP ammo. The scope is an old school Simmons Pro 50 2.5-10x50. I removed it the second we got back to the house after the show Sunday night. Ok not the second we got home, here's what's wierd, the screws for the mount were half stripped and tight as hecking heck! So I had to run to Lowes 10mins before they closed and get a screw extractor and drill them out and got them out. I don't know why they were so tight when there was not any loctite or anything on the threads. But needless to say I will be ordering a picatinny rail for it and putting a red dot on it because I like having an orbital socket lol. Now I have a lever action rifle to go with my Pietta SAA 45 Colt and Kirkpatrick Leather rig.
P.S. I looked up Marlin 1895s on GunBroker and I saw one for $1858 buy it now and that's including shipping, credit card fee, and sales tax. And 45rds of 45-70 is about 3-4 bucks a round lol so that's about $150ish before shipping. So I think I did ok as far as trades go. Now to see if I can trade up to a Noreen BN36X3 in 30-06 next ,lol. Like a gun nut version of bigger and better.
P.P.S. 45-70 Government is the only government I trust.
