just picked one up at a yardsale, with a tasco scope on it. any idea what its worth or how can I tell when it was made?

I've heard that the single trigger models were being sold by The Sportsmen's Guide for $99, but I haven't verified that. They were probably sold on closeout .
The last 2 numbers of the serial number usually indicates the date it was made.
Is it a St. Louis Hawken with a double trigger or the single trigger? The double trigger model is a kit gun and is currently listed on their website as having a list price of $249.
The used value always depends on the condition of the gun and specific details about which model it is.
Because its been drilled and tapped for the scope, that might detract from its value, but at least the scope has some value.

paid $100 ser no is 88567, has single trigger, in very good shape except a little rust spot under where a scope ring base sat. It is marked springfield hawkens spain

If that's the serial #, then that gun must have been made a long time ago. For instance, I have a Traditions Fox River Fifty (it was in reach & handy) that I bought about 10 years ago with a serial # XX-19-05XX41-95 which indicates that it was made in 1995. And it's marked Traditions, Deep River, CT which means that it was made before they moved to Old Saybrook, CT.
Does you rifle indicate any Traditions location?
Anyway, it's an older gun and if I had to guess, it may have cost about $150 more or less when new.
CVA made a Springfield Hawken too, so maybe it's not a Traditions gun at all?
It sounds like you found a decent deal though.

no other markings, I found an old web site of a gun dealer, no longer active, that showed a picture of it, and it showed it was made by traditions.

yep thats it, except the wood on mine is a lot lighter in color.

I e-mailed traditions, and they said it was made in 1993 and is a private label gun made for bass pro shops only. its not in traditions regular catolog

Yes, Traditions does make special runs of guns for some of the large mail order companies. That's how The Sportsman's Guide gets some of their closeout models. If a company can't sell them all or cancels the order, then The Guide picks them up.
That Basspro model is rather expensive for a 1993 gun, especially with it only being a single trigger model. Basspro must have found some in the warehouse and decided to jack up the price.

I have a Traditions Hawken Woodsman that has the 1 in 66" twist barrel. It was made in 1996 before they switched over to start making all of their Hawken barrels with the 1 in 48" twist, which they still do.
It was bought at the Traditions factory store as a leftover about 4 years ago, and was their last one AFAIK.
