Do you carry a loaded sidearm when you are transporting several other weapons and ammo when going on a range trip weekend??

I normally carry a GLOCK 21 as my sidearm and a AK 47 as my rifle when I travel to the fish camp on a week long trip. I normally carry an array of guns, (6 - 10 pistols and long guns) to shoot along w/ plenty of ammo, (usually in excess of 3000 - 4000 rounds of centerfrie ammo - 22 rim fire don't count).

I feel as if I am oblogated not to allow my guns and ammo fall into the wrong hands.

The guns I'm taking to shoot may or may not be loaded but the rifle and couple pistols that are 24/7 car guns are loaded all the time.

All guns are unloaded EXCEPT for my car gun which is loaded with 17rds +P JHP and a spare mag with 16 more.

I'm carrying 99% of the time, so the simple answer is "Yes". I take my rifles, mostly bolties, unloaded to the range, but all pistols are packed with a loaded clip or cylinder.

i always have a ccw with me when i am in route to the range, you never know what might happen on the way. and wouldn't that suck to get into trouble and need a loaded gun and have all the guns in the world and ammo to go with it, but no time to load them up? :banghead:

Carrying an unloaded gun is ridiculous, where it is legal to carry it loaded. This being AZ, sidearm is always loaded. Sometimes other firearms in the vehicle may be loaded, or have ready ammunition near them, depending on where I must drive.

I do stay armed w/a loaded gun even on the way to the range. You just never know whats gonna happen or where. I keep my CCW in my range bag but have it set up so that it is on top of my bag and easy to get to, on my way into and out of the range.

yes....especially after the range....a couple instences around here guys got held up on they way home after they shot up all their ammo...one guy got followed home then held up in the drive way....gpr

The arms that are on my person and under my direct control are loaded.

The rest are in storage mode, which is unloaded.

Due to the vagaries of PA game laws, and the general hostility of the laws of nearby states, my trunk guns, which are longarms, are not loaded.

I'll go so far as to insure that I have a loaded arm at all times while at the range as well as going to and from. You never can tell with some folks. There is no self image projection on to the public here. Unless you are a true friend or trustable family you are suspect in my eyes. I trust me, I trust those that earned my trust and no one else.

I load all of the magazines at the kitchen table before leaving the house. This is much easier than loading at the range. But I just don't feel the need for 3000 rounds on board unless I am actually shooting that much which is very rare.

To and from the range, my sidearm is loaded as usual. The rest are unloaded in case an LEO needs to have a look. (My foot and my ammo have something in common - lead)

I have always thought that if a crook wanted an easy target for a couple of guns @ once, a public range is a great place to scope out various pieces of your collection and choose who might be an easier target.

Call me paranoid, but when I'm on a public range, I always chamber a round and holster my sidearm openly before leaving.

I have my loaded CCW on me, and all other guns I'm shooting are unloaded. In PA, if I have a rifle, it must be unloaded in the car. This also means no loaded mags in the same compartment of the rifle case as the rifle.

I always carry when transporting firearms to and from the range, and I never leave empty.

My route to the club takes me through one of the sketchiest parts of town, and I'm transporting several hundred to several thousand dollars worth of desirable property.

Besides, I don't want to make the call to the police telling them that there's an 'assault rife'(or two) and a bucket full of handguns stolen, and now 'on the street'.

Yes.

At the indoor range I shoot at the guns are to be unloaded and all magazines are to be uncharged upon entering the building. They check before you pass through the doors to the range.

But they don't care/check upon leaving the range. Not to mention I've yet to be "made" with my ccw carry weapon yet.

I have very recently had it brought home to me that you can't schedule trouble or when you might need a gun. I am always armed.

KINGMAX,
You aren't being paranoid wanting to protect your guns. They are a coveted mark.

This is very important!! It is more important to leave the range with a loaded handgun that going to the range. Since I carry all the time I always have a loaded handgun available to me but it's a huge mistake to leave any range without a loaded SD handgun. I have heard too many stories about people being robbed of their gun on the way home from a range and they could do nothing about it because they had no ammo left or the laws where they live prevent them from carrying a loaded handgun home from the range. The laws are one thing but shooting off all your ammo and leaving yourself defenseless is another. NEVER make that mistake.

You never want a BG to take control of your weapons since they have nothing but bad intentions to begin with.
