Went to range today my first this year. After my last thread unbelievably stupid, I joined a gym club it has a 300 yd range, the most distance in the area.
I took my glenfield m 60, Smith 5904, say 11 in 223 and rem 700 in 7mm 08. The temp today was 35 degrees with a sweet wind at 7 mph.
I had several goals to achieve first sight in m60, second finish load works for saving 11 verify zero on rem 700 and run some practice rounds through 9mm.
Well the 22 was easy zeroed easily at 50 yd in just a few shot and ran 50 through for fun and warm up. Chose to shoot 223 next. Started at 50 yds it was printing 6 inches high at 50. Wow. Fired a few and got it down to 4 in high. Then went to 100 yds fired 5 rounds and no hits on paper. Lowered it 5 inches and hot dead center 8 inches high-energy down 10 inches and again no holes in paper. Well I put it away cause I've got a problem that I won't be able to fix at range.
Two other range members came set up and one had portable steel plates on chains hung from shepard hooks and let us use one for pistol
Well I must say that I'm in need of practice. I hit the plate but only 9 times out of 30 rounds.
I invaded my 700 and fired at 100 yds group centered about 2 inch high group larger than normal but haven't had much trigger time so I'll take it. Next went to the 200 yd line
Again group larger than I like but acceptable at moa.
There was a steel plate at 300 and a paper target that I'd put up. I fired 2 rounds at steel plate and scored 2 hits and 8 rounds on paper had 1 flier my fault the other 6 were 4 inch low in a 4 inch group. Not great but it is a start. There was also a three quarter inch thick manhole cover at the 200 yard line that I hit 10 for 10. I ended on that positive note, the temp was starting to drop and I'd been there for almost 4 hours.
