I went to the range yesterday to sight in my Rem 700, 30-06 (It's been a while since it's been out of the safe). I have a Leupold VX III with a B&C reticle mounted on top.

So here's my problem. I could not keep my eye focused on the reticle. I would involuntarily refocus on the target and the reticle would almost disappear. I could make it "reappear" if I closed my eyes momentarily and reopened them. But after about 3 seconds, my eye would revert to the target and the reticle would fade again.

I have never had this happen before and it kind of freaked me out. I'm sure it's in my head, but would appreciate any thoughts, advice or suggestions.

I've had that same problem on certain days where my eyes were fatigued. Usually on days of getting a lot of sunlight before going to the range made this prevalent.

Possibly contributing to this effect is that your reticle may be a little out of focus. You can adjust it by turning the eyepiece of the scope. If on a good day, you catch yourself having to "try" to focus on your reticle, the focus adjustment is your culprit.
