Anyone using them?

My Glock 23 Meprolight target sights are 15 years old and dead, and out of warranty.

After three attempts to get them repaired at my cost from Meprolight.
No go.
They won't repair them.

So much for Meprolight from now on, even though I like them and have them on three guns.

The next replacement will be Trijacone, or Tru Glo TFO.
(Never had a set of fiber optic rod sights, so don't know if I would like them or not??)

Anyone using TFO night sights?
And do you like them?

I don't want to sound like a dick....but 15 years out of a set of any glow style sights is a tribute to a quality sight... I have Meprolight night sights on my Kimber , and only hope to get 15 years, but in the event that I didn't, after your testimonial, I would buy them again in a heart beat.... They come with the combat defense package along with the Crimson Trace laser grips, and life time battery replacement.. Both Truglow and Meprolight have 12 year warrantees, the Meprolight sights are ten dollars cheaper...If I got 15 years out of my first set I would look no further... Do you expect them to last forever, or be warrantied for life... ? IM just asking...

FYI Truglow only offers a 12 year warranty, but the new sights have to installed by a professional.. and there is also 12.50 return shipping fee...

Truglo is now including an explanation of their night sight warranty inside of every package. The warranty sheet finally answers much of the mis information that is being spread across many firearms forums. Unlike what has been reported Truglo does actually off a 12 year warranty on their night sights as they always have. Whats different is that the warranty is now explicitly stated and publicly available. To summarize the warranty
•It is a 12 year warranty from original manufacturing (keep your TFO paper work packaging)
•Original retail purchaser
•Must have proof of Purchase
•No registration required
•Sights Decay and dim over time
•Must be installed properly or will void warranty
•If product fails must contact Truglo for an return Merchandise Authorization RMA
•RMA must be marked on the package
•$12.50 charge for return shipping
•Truglo has the option of repair, replace or make appropriate adjustment

The warranty does not cover
•Normal wear and tear
•Surface finish (the bluing)
•Modifications
•Neglect
•Improper installation
•You just don't like them
•Grey market (products purchased outside of the US)

I wasn't complaining about the Meps being dead after 15 years.

They have been too dim to be useful for the last 5 years.

And I just got around to doing something about it.

I know for a fact Trijacon will re-lamp their sights out of warranty for about half the cost of a new set..

It appears Meprolight will not.

Tru Glow, Mep, and Trijacon all offer the same 12 year warranty on green & yellow sights, so that's not a factor for me.

I would be 83 years old in another 12 years, so I doubt I will be here to worry about it the next time anyway.

Fair enough...
at our age,, If I had to worry over, 75 dollar night sights or 85 dollar night sights, it would not be because of poor performance.. I would choose for other reasons. like I want to try to different type, style, color, etc.. Today with an Amazon purchase, there is no concern about returning sights that did not perform, look or fit as expected. IN the last year Amazon has really stepped up their return policy... Now,,, when you request a return.. they instantly send you a call tag for shipping..( no cost to return ) and they return your money to the credit card, gift card or points program you used to buy the product... The last two things I requested a return.. they posted my money the day I requested it.. even before the got my returned product in the mail... when I requested a call tag and printed it, I immediately got an email saying the credit was posted to my original account.

I'm slowly changing all my Glocks (which are my primary defense choices) to TFO's got 3 sets so far, the oldest must be 6 yrs and still brite as the others plus I've got the fiber when the element craps out.
I've got a set of Trijicons on a Kimber that are still shining and a couple Reflex and one ACOG that are still bright after going through hell.
An old set of Meprolights I have on an old G21 are burned out but it is a G2 and probably well past 20 yrs old.
Seems last I bought TFO's they were around $80 +=, I bought a pusher so I install myself and loan out the tool to my friends. If you need it I'd put it in the mail but it will be late next month before I could do it.

Well, we will see I guess.

Just ordered a set of TFO's from Optics Planet for $94.99 with free shipping.

Well it's too late now.

Besides, optics planet is a THR member, and he has helped me out a time or two.

They have always provide good fast service in the past, so paying slightly more is no biggie to me.

I've never bought from Optics Planet, but your desire to do so is right on the money. I'm not going to chase a few bucks if I've found a reliable, honorable source for the part or service I need.

Over many years, I've bought lots of things from Optics planet. Their prices are good... But I've bought a thousand things from Amazon, and I've never found better prices or better customer service with no hassle returns at no cost.. I was just pointing that out,,, as far as helping me out.,.. Amazon has helped me out many times..
I merely said... Amazon isn't going anywhere... Products get to me in a few days, I've waited ten days to get something from Optics planet on many occasions. There is absolutely no down side to an Amazon purchase..

My point was that you can purchase the same exact product from Amazon and save 12 dollars.. get the same product, with faster service and a 100% money back guarantee and at Zero cost to you. I have no affiliation with Amazon... just as a smart consumer, with my families finances as a priority, why would I spend 12 dollars more for a product I can get for 12 dollars cheaper...there is no upside to that. Buy ten products using the same scenario, and going with Amazon will put 120 dollars in your pocket... If you only buy toys once or twice a year, it doesn't matter much, but I buy lots of toys... monthly...
I just went to my Amazon account and last month.. June I bought 12 things from Amazon..

Both valid points. However, "with my families finances as a priority", my choice may be to buy fewer toys and less often. Everybody's got to make their own choices.

As far a Amazon goes, and I've bought lots of stuff from Amazon, if tomorrow the Second Amendment were repealed, chances are good the folks at Amazon probably wouldn't care, and I'd wager most in their management hierarchy may applaud it. On the other hand, the folks at Brownell's, Top Gun Supply, MidwayUSA, and Optics Planet, most likely have a similar passion for the freedoms outlined in the Second Amendment that I have. As long as their service continues to be good, and their prices are reasonable, I'll continue to support them as a loyal customer.

I like the truglo sights. I've had a few sets on my guns for a few years and they're still bright. Even if they crapped out tomorrow, their price is so much better than meps or trijicon that I'll just buy a new set. These days, anything less than a few hundred dollars is a waste of time to worry about.

I would like to try the TFO sights but they don't make them for the handguns I currently carry. So I will stick with Hi Viz fiber optic.

IM curious as to why the op... who stated " he was disappointed that his Meprolight , " after 15 years, were not working " and wanted Truglow, because of better performance...
in a post after the original post... I questioned the OP about the 15 years, and the fact that 15 years was impressive... His reply was "they stopped working five years ago." that would have made them fall within the 12 year warrantee, and replaceable under warrantee..

I would have to go into the details of my personal life, and our battle with my wife's stage 5 Alzheimer's to even attempt to explain to you why I didn't send them in while still in warranty.

Life, and free time isn't always as worry-free and available as it was when we were both young and healthy.

I didn't send them in then, and it was all my fault, not Meprolights.
O.K.?

who stated " he was disappointed that his Meprolight , " after 15 years, were not working "
I did not say that!

All I said was they are out of warranty, and they will not replace the Tritium vials for a savings over the cost of new sights, such as Trijacon does everyday.

Enough said.
O.K.?

Sometimes you forget. I have a grandfather who has a Winchester 190. About 10 years ago the end cap for the tubular magazine came off and he lost all the ammo and a few parts. He made a mental note to replace the parts. He pulled out that rifle just last week, and had forgotten all about it.

That is partially why I don't particularly like tritium sights. Some companies like Metro and Trijicon have warranties. They burn out after 10 or so years etc. I use mostly fiber optic sights on my handguns. Cost less, nothing to replace, and nothing that burns out. Just not as useful for very low light shooting. But that is what I have Viridian C5L for.

I was not judging... I was just curious... I know how life can get in the way of low priorities.. and how a few weeks can quickly turn into a few years..
I was not trying to defend Meprolight...or be sinister... Part of your post had the air of disappointment in Meprolight's policies .... the other part of your post seem to say that you were not happy that Meprolight would not take care of you, even after 15 years. So you were going to go with Truglow because Meprolight disappointed you. On a scale from 1 to 10... night sights are way down the priority list at 10, while health ( I'm an advanced stage Cancer patient... loosing half of my stomach and my whole Esophagus to Cancer ) health is # 1.
Again I know this night sight issue is very small potatoes. I hope my curiosity did not offend you, it was not meant to be offensive. I was just curious.

rc,

At the recommendation of a gun smith friend of mine I put Truglo's on a number of my guns. I've been happy with them. I have both the TFO and TFX's, which are newer. Both are great, but I can see the TFO's a little better. The fiber has been known to fly out on the TFO's which is why I went with the TFX's when they came out. I believe a simple insurance policy against them flying out is a drop of adhesive. A drop of clear silicone adhesive should work, but maybe someone else can confirm that.

Tomj

That's for the heads up on loose rods coming out.

I will keep a eye on them.

But I doubt it's anything a tiny drop of CA thin adhesive won't cure if necessary.

rc

I can say from personal experience that after about 5K rounds of 9mm you will loose your front fiber pipe on the TFO. The TFX will last about 5K in .40 before you may find the front sight taking a flight. I've been through 4 sets on my 9mm, and 1 set on my .40 before I decided I was done with them. They are very good sights if you can deal with the durability issues (which depending on the volume of shooting you do that may not be an issue at all).

-Jenrick

Well I doubt it will.

But again, it doesn't sound like anything a tiny drop of CA adhesive wouldn't fix forever anyway.

I got the sights in the mail today, installed them, and am very pleased with the fit, finish, and visibility, both night and day.

This Glock 23 is mostly a nightstand gun anyway.

So it's very unlikely I will shoot 5K in the rest of my lifetime.

rc

Never tried the TFOs, but the front sight is very long, you will loose an inch of sight radius!!:D Love Trijicon HDs, best sights out there in my opinion. Let us know how you like them.
