I've shot both outdoors, but never shot the 10mm indoors.
I was shopping for a S&W .45acp for my night stand and my LGS salesman whipped out the S&W .10mm. I voiced my concern over the 10mm blast indoors and he said, "No different than .45acp."

I'm voting "False!"

I have to agree with jak67429. The 10mm on an indoor range is quite a bit louder.

I will also add that the 45acp round is typically subsonic at >900fps while the 10mm rounds is supersonic. That being said, the 10mm round should be louder as it breaks the speed of sound (crack).

Which one did you end up going with ?

Maybe the salesman is about 95% deaf from shooting without proper hearing protection. ;)
Seriously, I also vote "false." I don't have the data sitting in front of me right now, but I'm pretty sure the 10mm is loaded to higher pressures than the 45 ACP. That would make the 10mm "louder" than the 45 ACP.
Not that I'd want to fire either one of them without proper hearing protection (especially not indoors) unless I had to. I've lost more than enough of my hearing already by being stupid - like shooting without proper hearing protection, when I didn't have to. :(

It really depends, it's not so much the caliber all the time as the powder used in it. I've heard .45's that weren't excessively loud and yet I've heard .45's that sounded much louder and boomier, it all has to do with the powder used. Sure a 10mm could be louder, but a particular .45 could be louder than a particular 10mm, it all depends.

If you reload, it's relatively easy to get 10mm Auto loads that are very similar to .45 Auto loads. Use a 200 grain JHP loaded to around 800-850 fps. You still have the ability to ramp those up significantly if you want or need to. I've got 1911's in both .45 and 10mm, I shoot the 10mm more than twice as much.

But yeah, indoors or out, standard 10mm is a lot louder than .45. If the noise bothers you indoors, wear plugs inside a set of electronic muffs.
