So watching Calgary Stampede this week (Rodeo for those not in the know)

Lots of ads for True Velocity Ammo. Never heard of It.

They claim the case is something special?

Anyone with experience? Thoughts?

I can't speak for that brand as I have no knowledge of it.

But, speaking in terms of "true velocity" factory ammo, I can speak to 10mm.

Many like to berate factory 10mm ammo, and with good reason. A lot of it is downloaded to rather weak specs, AKA .40 can specs. Does that say something about 40? I digress.

I have one 10mm pistol, a Ruger Target 1911 to be specific. I almost exclusively shoot Sig 180g ball ammo out of it. I have shot, and have on hand, other ammo. But my main stock pile is of the Sig ammo. They advertise 1250fps and after shooting a bunch of it along with other various brands, I can say without a doubt the Sig ammo hits harder.

No I don't have a chrono I'm just going off the "seat of the pants feel". The Sig ammo is certainly hotter than the S&B, PMC, and AE ammo I have.

My dads 6.5" model 27 S&W is the only other pistol I've shot that had similar recoil, comparatively.

Go to their website!

New Start Up company that recently competed along with Beretta to try to get new U.S. Army contract for the next generation Squad Automatic Weapon. (SAW). And PDW.

Sig won the contract with the XM-5 and M250.
True Velocity uses a compound case with a polymer body/neck and stainless steel case head similar to the SIG round.
Both are 6.8x51, but the True Velocity case is larger in diameter.
Shoots a .277” 139/140gr monolithic bullet to 3,300fps from a 29” barrel (SAW), 2,700fps from 16.5” bbl (M-5). It’s loaded to approximately 80,000psi to gain the performance.
Both SAW and Personal Defense Weapon are equipped with suppressors.

True Velocity also offers 5.56x45, 7.62x51, and .50BMG for the commercial market. They are trying to penetrate the civilian market since losing the military contract.
However, they are still working with the DOD on other projects...
They claim the cases aren’t reloadable, or reusable. But, “we shall see!”.

BTW; The SIG .277 Fury commercial cartridge isn’t exactly the same as the milspec cartridge. The commercial ammo released to-date by SIG have been single piece brass loaded to 60,000psi. A 6.8 or .270-08....

In a nutshell goose nailed it.

It is a "plastic" case, and that had some military people in a dither as it would make the weight for the same amount of ammo carried lower. It is said to not be reloadable, and I doubt it will be.

I don't think it is like the shotgun shells that are not plastic, so this stuff will lay around forever.

On the fence, old and like to reload so I doubt I will fire one round unless someone says hay try this, on the other hand I like the idea of having our guys carry less weight.

Tom Gresham talked about Sig Sauer and their breakthrough ammo on GunTalk last Sunday. I’m guessing this is related.

Interesting interview (starts at 7:44 of the podcast). Sig guy mentioned that gunmakers need to “proof” their guns to the new standards and they can use this ammo. Apparently they can almost get .300 Win Mag performance from a .308. Very interesting conversation.
