I posted earlier that I was interested in finding a load for my Brown Bess for turkey season this spring. I wanted to share my thanks and a little info I found also. This place has been helpful for me wit all the articles and posts. Thew Caywood article worked ok for me but for mine I found a little way that helps my musket and hopefully it will someone else.

Here is the article by the way, http://www.caywoodguns.com/working_up_turkey_loads_for_opti.htm

I went and instead of adding the muffin mix last mixed a bit of it with the shot and went from there adding shot till I got about 1 1/2 the same folume mixed down the barrel. Hope I explained that right.

Approx. 85 grains 2F
and 1.25 oz shot.
#6 shot though.

Seems a decent pattern at 25 yards, a long way for me, but awesome at 18- 20 yards.

Just a note to say how its going and I'll work on it more this weekend. I am just getting excited about this stuff so be patient with me. I am new here also.
Take care and Thanks,
MC.

Well that's just about 3 Drams, so you should get about 1100 fps or so ( the touch hole bleeds off a bit of pressure). At 25 yards with #6 that 'ill do it.

The guys that I know that use the flinters get their turkeys shooting from a sitting position, back against a tree, supporting the left arm with the knees. They call in the Tom, get him as close as they can, then WHAM.
