some years ago i bought four wincheater shotguns for a older friend(all or nothing), three model 12,s. a 20 ga-a 16 ga- a 12ga and the fourth is a model 97 in 12ga, all field grade. he bought them all new in 1953 and i might add all in ex condition. i shot the model 12 in 12ga and the model 97 also in 12ga with federal 1 1/8-8 shot at 1200 fps. its the first time i shot them both at trap, the model 12 shot a 23-25 and the model 97 shot a 21-25, i think with more practice i could do better with the 97 with the slower hammer fall and stock drop.

I have yet to shoot my 12-12 due to recovery from knee replacement. It belonged to my mentor and our clubs founder and I can remember him "taking" the club championship trophy from me somewhere around 1990. With shells I "loaned" him. Miss that guy. Hope I do his gun proud.

OK, I did shoot one practice round. It crushes 16 yard birds and hates WW promo shells with steel heads. Really hard to extract/eject. A major chamber polish is in order. Might be carboned up or a little pitted. 21/25. It doesn't fit me like my TB.
