Sounds like you need to stick with the 870. :). Good scores

My experience in trap is use the same gun and you'll be more consistent.

If your shooting to enjoy then have at it. I've seen Some big time trophies won with an 870.

Speaking of trap anyone going to the grand American this week?

I'm shooting 200 16's on Wednesday. See f I can better my best sore 194 / 200

my main trap gun is a BT-100, but i own quite a few trap grade gun and three skeet guns and a lot of field shotguns and i love to shoot them all,for 12ga i have a mec 650 and a mec 9000g,i buy the 20-16ga shells. i have shot many 25,s and quite a few 50,s, but no 75 or 100,s, 74-75 and 97-100 are my best and at 69 i don,t think i,ll ever clean a 75 or 100. i started shooting trap with a field 500 mossberg in the early 60,s and never got into the 20,s, but shot a friends 870 trap(fell in love with it) and saved for one and with it i shot my first 25-25. i have two 870,s in trap grade a TB and TC with a morgen pads(most of my clay guns have morgen pads). i shoot twiced a week and have made many fine friends over the last 50yrs at these shoots, there have been a few poop heads too,but for every poop head there have been over 100 super people. eastbank.

Trap is an awesome Game. I've been shooting over 20 years and I'm only 38. Don't shoot weekly, too busy with the kids and all, but I would shoot daily if I could. I've shot 75 straight several times but no 100s. Run 92 one year at the Grand and finished with a 99 (best ever).

Love the game and hope I'm still loving it like you after 50 years.

Good luck and break Em all.

several weeks ago i loaned a 1100 set up for trap(replaced the stock set and put a trap barrel on it) to a young man named ryan who was a new starting out shooter(less than 3 months) his first round with the 1100 he hit 21-25 and on his second he hit 25-25. well he now had to try for 50-50 and he had a blow out at #42 and #46 ending up with a 48-50. he took it in stride tho and was still smiling. he wants to buy the 1100, but i have not decided yet. but i may sell it to him as i don,t realy need it or use it very much. eastbank.

Just make arrangements for the young man to use your gun till e decides what he wants. I did the same thing till I found my beretta 680.

he can use it all he wants,he buys remington nitro shells and gives me the empty cases to throw away as he doesn,t reload. i tell him i only take them to get rid of because i like him(wink, wink). boy to have the eyes and reflexs of a young man(other things too). he,s chain lighting, breaking then 10-12 yds off the trap house. i,m going to let him shoot a round of doubles to see how fast he realy is. eastbank.

Reading this post makes me feel like a little guy, I recently picked up a new O/U and took it to the range last weekend. I didnt get out of the single digits in both trap and skeet (highest ever is 21 with a SxS). But the comforting thing is that my neighbor wasnt to far ahead of me and he has been doing it for years. Bad day for all of us, including his step son. He recently got a 12ga O/U and by the third round he was flinching really bad. He complains that it kicks too much so I offered my wifes semi 20 gauge to try and see if he likes it better.

Some day I would like to get into the 20's and then go for 25 - 50 -75 - and if the gods see fit 100

Man, I know what you mean about the virtues of lost youth. Went out a couple of months ago to shoot clays with a new reflex sight, and the sun was right in our faces early on. I bet I was shooting 50% until I got settled in after about 20 or 30 shots. Just didn't feel "right" that morning. Even worse, I notice I have more of those kinds of mornings these days.

to me, there are no little men shooting the clay games, you will look back and see good friends good times and believe me you will improve as time goes by. i was a slow shooter when i started with a mossberg 500.a good recoil pad goes a long way,i like the morgen pads that also have other adjustments. for me gun fit first, style next. its hard to shoot good with a knot raiseing on your cheek bone. eastbank.
