LOUISVILLE KY. Finally escaped living in DRPMA.
Just wondering if anyone here has two navies set up for cavalry draw. I only have one, a Traditions 44 Brasser. It’s a hoot at the range. I have it set for strong side draw from a flapped holster. Thinking of getting a second gun and holster to have a two gun rig. What say you all?

Have 3 Navies (in Navy caliber), one with 5 1/2" barrel and 2 flap holsters. As a mater of fact have pairs of '60s and Remingtons and like to shoot with two guns, loading for 2 then shooting seems just to be more efficient.
Besides the best things come in pairs !

Turns out, that's one reason sometimes I'm sort of glad Cabela's doesn't have those bargain basement sales on C&B revolvers any more.
They would plum empty my wallet every time.

Same here but I was sort of hoping they would go on sale so I could pick up a Remington New Model Army to go with my New Model Navy. Oh well have to find something else for Christmas!

Only have one setup for traditional Cav draw,
If I wanted a Wild Bill 2 Navy, I’d have to wrap my sash.

The two extra pouches are for spare cylinders.

you might check with old south firearms as I bought two 51 navy's for only $220 a piece and these are nice pistols by traditions but really are made by pietta arms for traditions and these are very nicely made shoot good too!

44 dave...that picture of you pointing a loaded cap n ball revolver is an all too a familiar sight...im pretty sure almost all of us have made that same pose while looking in a mirror. I know im guilty of it. I noticed ur front sight looks a little low and domed...did you have to shave it down shorter? Doesnt look bad...just that all my navies needed the sight to be a tad taller. Great looking gun...looks "comfortably" worn in.

No mirror, hammer is back, all 6 loaded and finger on the trigger. That is the original '51 front sight, I use 6:00 hold and it is right on. Did cut the the hammer notch deeper. Hate anything bigger than a bead or small blade on a carry pistol.

I too hate larger front sights...i never change my front site on my 51s, if they need to be taller then i just adjust the hammer notch instead.

I have a pair of canted Slim Jim holsters set up the twist draw that I want to use in the upcoming Cowboy match season. Just got the holsters and haven't had a chance to work with it yet. Just something to "round out" the Colt Navy experience which I hope has no end.

Howdy

My SASS buddy Wild Bill Blackerby thinks he looks a lot like Hickok.

Except his hair is blonde.

He always wears his pistols butt forward, the way the other Wild Bill did.

Wild Bill has perfected the Cavalry style draw so he can pull his pistols and reholster without sweeping anybody.

Like me, he always shoots Black Powder.

His preferred pistols are a pair of Colt Open Top Conversion replicas, that are chambered for 38 Special, but he also owns a pair of 1851 Navies with conversion cylinders for 38 Special.

Here is a tin type of Wild Bill with one of his Navies.

Here is a portrait of Wild Bill with his lovely wife Ida Mae Holliday.

The "other Wild Bill" wore his 1851 Navies butt forward in a sash, not in holsters. Your blonde Wild Bill looks more like Custer.

The thing about the red sash is mostly myth. Have you ever tried carrying long barreled revolvers stuffed into a sash?

In this famous photo of 'the other' Wild Bill there is no sash, he is clearly wearing his pistols stuffed into a belt. It is a bit difficult to see if they are holstered, or simply stuffed into the belt. Notice how tightly the belt is buckled around his waist, to keep the guns from slipping. You can't do that with a sash because there is no buckle on a sash.

You will notice my pal does pay homage to the myth by wearing a sash under his gunbelt, but he knows better than to try to keep pistols from jumjping out of a sash through the range of motion we go through in CAS.

Can't help about the hair color, he is very proud of his blonde hair.

Thanks for the tip!

I enjoyed this one, published in 1926, in which the author interviews people who knew and witnessed Wild Bill in action. Just like today, dust jacket artists don’t get the guns right! :)
