Houston Mayor Lee Brown sent a letter to Gov. Rick Perry on Thursday, urging
him to veto a bill that would strip the city of its ability to enforce a ban
on legally concealed handguns from its facilities. City and county officials
continued to grapple with the potential effects of the bill Thursday and
were unable to say what, if any, changes in security it could spur.

Both City Hall and the Harris County Administration Building have signs at
all entrances warning that weapons are barred. The city installed metal
detectors at City Hall in 1998. A spokeswoman for the Building Services
Department said the signs and detectors have served as a deterrent, and
security guards have not had to confiscate any weapons.

NOTE: Nothing is final until June 22!
Contact Governor Perry Today at 1.800.843.5789 and ask him
to please sign into law bills SB501, HB1704, HB3477 & HB284!
