I just saw in this month's Popular Mechanic's magazine where the Army has adopted a new rifle scope "...which can predict the path of a bullet before soldiers even pull the trigger. The 'Next-Generation Squad Weapons-Fire Control' adds a ballistic computer to combat rifles that automatically adjusts for bullet drops and wind conditions...". The Super Scope should make for a super optic for hunting purposes.

Old/news tech.

Burris has had their Eliminator line of scopes for some time.
The limitations of this Scope are that it’s heavy, and has a limited range of effectiveness.

I used a friend’s mounted on a AAC REM M700 in 300 BO.
Because of the steep trajectory curve of the .300BO with subsonic ammo, THe scope is only able to auto compensate to around 190yds, where the scope maxed out its internal adjustment range.
The internal laser rangefinder isn’t the greatest either.
With a .300WinMag, the scope is able to auto compensate to about 450yds.
Most modern conventional sniper scopes have internal adjustments to 1500yds+, with a +20min rear scope base. So, the electronic marvels have seen slow adoption.

I’m sure the latest milspec units have seen significant refinement.

Already being discussed on this thread - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/army-selects-vortex-for-next-generation-squad-weapon-–-fire-control-optic.904777/
  • Allows for intuitive displays to support ballistic drops, reticle shapes and sizes, and additional modes to display way points, identified threats and fields of fire
  • Enables the unit to range a target, send the information to an on-board ballistic solver, gather atmospheric information, and display an illuminated Active Reticle with the corrected aimpoint with wind holds in the sight picture. The solution takes tenths of a second.
