I have an Uberti 2nd Model Dragoon and I want to remove the grips for a through cleaning. Can anyone make a suggestion on what screws that I need to remove in order to remove the grips?

Backstrap removal?

Thanks for the link to VTI. It looks like that may need to remove the brass backstrap portion of the frame in order to remove the grips. I may try that if I don't get any more suggestions.

Using the picture that Pohill posted, you would take the 2 screws that are positioned next to each side of the hammer & then the 1 screw that is on the bottom of the back strap, after that the back strap can be removed & the wooden grip can be slid off..

Exactly

Truthfully, the best way to learn how to take these guns apart is to just do it. You probably shouldn't stop at removing the grips. Take it all apart and somehow label each part or diagram it as you remove the pieces. If you get stuck, there's plenty of posters here that will help you. That's part of the fun of these guns. Knowing how they work makes shooting and fixing and cleaning alot easier.

David, that is the only way to remove the grip. You notice that I said grip, it is one piece. Remove the two screws below the hammer and the one at the base. The brass backstrap will have a little spring tension to it so it will separate by itself, it comes apart easily but patience is needed to put it back together.

I would suggest that you loosen the bottom screw first but do not remove it. Then loosen both the top screws, remove the bottom screw and finally remove the top screws.

For assembly, install and start the bottom screw but do not tighten it. Install and start the top screws, taking them down almost to where they start to tighten. Finish the bottom screw and then finish the top screws.

The above is not critical but makes it easier. Using the right screwdriver, however, is essential. You will find that purchasing a good gunsmith's set of hollow ground screwdrivers or driver and bit set is well worth the investment.

Thanks, mission accomplished

I appreciate everyone's suggestion. I removed the suggested screws and was able to clean under the grip. I did not realize that this was a one piece grip. Thanks again.
