I was at WalMart today and needed some .22 cal. patches and this was right next to them! At first I thought that they were the ultimate in lazyness, and perhaps they are, but rethinking the deal, could see where they might come in handy, like when my granddaughter stuck the muzzle of the shotgun in the dirt, so she could rest her arms on the butt. Hmm!

The other thing came to mind was that when we go to the North Maine Woods hunting birds for several days, and hunt in the rain. It would be nice to have these to dry out the bores quickly.

What do you think about them?

Chances are it's just felt wads. I tried the with a air rifle that wasn't cleaned for years, nothing!!
Used bore solvent and a brush-- you should have seen the crud that came out.

These are nothing new, I now one brand had problems with them getting stuck in the bore and guys later shooting the gun with a bore obstruction. There was one that even had corrosive primers.

I will stick with my obligatory one pull of an oily bore snake. I can do that in the house. Not sure about using those snake oil shells in the living room.
Me too. Bore snake for routine rifle cleaning/oiling before putting away. Simple and effective.

I have seen that stuff at the local Wal-Mart several times. So I know they keep it in regular stock. They have an interesting component diagram on the back of the box. I can see putting one or two rounds at the bottom of your shell bag at the end of some skeet shooting. But otherwise, not a good option for the price. Walmart charges I believe $7 for a box of 5 in 12ga.

....... Soon as I saw the picture my mind said "GIMMICK".. Never heard of them but what do I know about all the new fangled 21st century wonder products. If Wal Mart carries them I assume there must be a market for them. Has anyone here used them ? I'm still old school on shotgun cleaning.

I'm going to take them on my next hunt to the North Maine Woods, instead of taking a cleaning kit. Won't waste them at home where I have a gun cleaning bench and all kinds of supplies.

Perhaps that is their primary purpose ? As a temporary thing that's better than nothing until you can give your shotgun proper care. I never thought about that aspect of it. My initial skepticism is now curiosity. Let us know how that works out.

I wouldn't use this to clear a plugged bore, but would use a stick or something else to clear the obstruction before trying this cleaner. I haven't tried using this product and don't necessarily recommend it, but am curious about its effectiveness and plan to have it with me the next time we go bird hunting in Northern Maine.

Back when Minie' balls ruled the battle field it was noted that loading became hard after ten rounds or so from mainly powder fouling.

To help during battle someone came up with the idea of a cleaning bullet and sometimes one was loaded in every ten round packet or every other five round packet. The bullet was heavier than a standard bullet as it featured no cavity for expansion and instead had one or two metallic discs fasten to the base of the bullet shaped so that they would expand on firing and scrap the fouling from previous shots out when fired.

Troops disliked them as recoil was noticeably more and accuracy went out the window for that shot. But most old fouling was blown out the muzzle so one got a start over on loading from that point. Hope it was not the first round you loaded for that battle!

anyhow the idea has been around a while

Unless it's the same slow mover that never sold.
